Why doesent my webcam work on yahoo messenger??

First, update your system:
>Install the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger.
>Microsoft has released updates for DirectX and Internet Explorer. Please download and install the following software updates: 1.DirectX Runtime 2.Internet Explorer 3.Microsoft Windows Update (Please make sure to open this link in Internet Explorer)
>Uninstall and reinstall your webcam software: 1.On your keyboard, hold down the Windows key and press the R key. This opens the "Run" command. 2.Type in appwiz.cpl and click OK. This will open Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features. 3.Select the webcam software and click Remove or Uninstall. 4.Unplug your webcam. 5.Restart your computer. 6.Visit the webcam manufacturer's website to download and install the latest driver software. Follow the instructions described by the webcam setup program, and plug in your webcam only when prompted.
>Run the Video and Voice Setup assistant to test your webcam.
Additional Notes: >Most webcam manufacturers maintain the latest webcam software drivers on the download or support areas of their website. >Plug in your webcam USB cord only when prompted.

Reinstall you webcam drivers doing the following:

Unplug your webcam from your computer.

1. Reboot your computer.
2. Insert your webcam's manufacturer installation CD into the CD-ROM drive and follow the installation prompts.

Note: If the setup program doesn't start automatically within a few seconds, you need to manually start the installation process.
To manually start the installation process:

1. Click Start from the taskbar in the lower-left corner of your computer screen.
2. Open the Run window and type d:\setup in the text area.
   Note: The "d" indicates the path to your CD-ROM drive. If your CD-ROM drive is located in a different path, you need to replace the "d" with the correct path.
3. If you've downloaded the most recent software driver from the webcam manufacturer's website, run that installation program now.
   Note: Most webcam manufacturers maintain the latest webcam software drivers on the download or support areas of their website. Just download it and save it to your computer.
4. Follow the instructions provided by the webcam setup program.
   Note: Plug in your webcam USB cord only when prompted. (This is usually done after rebooting your computer.)

·If you have a corrupt file in your Yahoo! Messenger directory.

To fix the problem, you must manually delete the "Messenger" directory on your C: drive (default), then reinstall the Yahoo! Messenger application.

All archives will be deleted if they are not copied. If you have a Flash drive copy it. If none, copy them like this:

CLOSE Yahoo! Messenger (if it is currently running).

Go to your Desktop and double-click "My Computer."

Select the "C:" drive.

Go to: C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles

Your "Profiles" folder contains your complete Message Archive. Copy it to the a different folder on your computer and RENAME IT AND save..

Now you can DELETE the Yahoo Messenger by deleting the directory:

CLOSE the Yahoo! Messenger application if you currently have it running. Make sure all instances of Internet Explorer are CLOSED.

Go to your desktop and double-click "My Computer."

Click the "C:" drive.

Go to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!

Highlight the Yahoo! Messenger folder and press the Delete key on your keyboard.

DEFRAG your computer files to remove those empty spaces resulting from the deletion.

TO INSTALL:

CLOSE all running applications EXCEPT for your Internet browser.

DISABLE YOUR ANTI VIRUS/ANTI SPY PROGRAM/S. Most times they interfere in the downloading/installation process.

Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the Yahoo software may have difficulty in locating it, and you can get a 'webcam not located' or 'webcam being used in another program' error message.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, if yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use the keyboard shortcut or disable / enable from the Device Manager.
Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.

Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

TESTING
> Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. You should be rewarded at this stage with your happy smiling face.

DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your selections ( who you will allow to view you) > Apply > OK

IN USE
When you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'. This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( 1 minute) before they see you, so dont be too impatient ( You can check the status on the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a convenient location by grabbing the top border.

Your contacts may need to configure their connection the same as INTERNET CONNECTION above ( less the reference to the webcam ) if they get a "webcam not connected" message

I am aware sometimes, people are unable to download the Yahoo Messenger directly from their website.

Do one thing, download and install it from :-

You can go to the camera's site and track down the proper drivers etc and download it that way (your camera's make and model}
or
Take the cd to a friends house and have them email you the entire install
or
have a friend upload it to a free storage internet sight.(like, http://www.yousendit.com/) where you can download it later directly to your computer.
Or
Have them do a file transfer to you using msn messenger or yahoo messenger.
