Upscaling will only occur when playing DVDs. You have to use an HDMI connection from the DVD player to the tv. For upscaling of DVD's you will also have to setup the upscaling resolution in the DVD player's setup menu. Be sure to set the resolution to one that your tv will support.

If your tv does not have a HDMI input, then you will not be able to use the upscaling feature.

Upscaling will not occur on antenna signals. This is not possible because the hardware (inside DVD player) is only meant to upscale DVD video.

Again, to upscale DVDs ONLY, you will have to have an HDMI cable going from DVD player to TV, set up your upscaling options on your DVD setup menu and have a TV that has a HDMI input and is capable of recieving the upscaled resolution you have set your DVD player to.

If I buy a regular dvd for someone and they only have blu ray, can they play it on the blu ray?

unless it is a very early player, you don't have to throw out your DVD collection and, in fact, DVDs can actually look better when played on Blu-ray Disc player because all players have video upscaling capability.

Hello there.

Push "Play/Pause" and "DVD Rec" on the dvd recorder a few seconds to see the service menu. There you can find your firmware version.

Post back the version for us.

Hope this helps.

I am trying to play dvds from England (Region 2) on this dvd player and bought it specifically because it is region free - plays NTSC and PAL, so thought it would be an obvious choice. I can get the dvd to...

Are you in the US? Your TV system is NTSC. The player possibly plays NTSC and PAL(European system) discs on PAL TVs only. Try to find out from the user manual of the DVD player if you can change the output signal to NTSC. Now it is PAL even though you are playing NTSC discs.

I want to turn my regular signal into an HDtv signal. How Can I do this?

Your, ahem..., your Regular Signal?

Please describe this more in detail, what you are trying to do?

There are upscaling dvd players these days that can upscale regular dvds to HD...

What regular signal are you talking about? Over-the-air TV went to Digital recently ... so the Regular TV old style signals are mostly gone from the airwaves. That was NTSC (Never Twice the Same Color, no really Nation Television Sub Committee.) Now it is Advanced aka ATSC. Most tuners on newer tv's will do both NTSC and ATSC both on over-the-air and on most Cable TV systems.

Retrievo has you manual. You could probably also find it on the manufacturers web site...

Does not play multichannel audio (5.1) input through optical digital audio

Hi try this.

in the dvd player make sure you just leave it default (bitstream) but in the home theater receiver don't select 5.1 b/c that will only give you a virtual 5.1 not a true 5.1. In fact don't select any sound field at all just select dolby digital or dts depending on the source of the movie then you should be ok.

The only other problem i can see is that hdmi sends both the sound and picture to the tv. You will need to see if there's a function on the dvd player to only send the picture via hdmi and the sound via the optical out of the dvd player.

good luck
