No hot water pressure on kohler bath / shower faucet

We have a kohler single handle faucet and shower head. When we turn on the faucet for the shower the water pressure seems very strong when it is in the cold water position-when we proceed to move the faucet lever to hot the pressure decreases and the water coming out is minimal. We have this problem with both bathrooms. The temperature is very hard to regulate between hot and warm?

Try draining the system and apply air pressure (min 30psi) to each faucet. Open other hot water faucets to allow pressure to vent. Next try draining and cleaning the hot water tank.

SOURCE: Pressure problem with Kohler shower faucet??

Hi pglaw,

My best guess is the supply valve for the hot side isn't open all the way. This valve is right on the valve and is accessed by taking off the front cover plate. This would still allow the pressure balancing valve to let water through but then you would have a small flow on the hot side.

If this isn't it then then cartridge is bad.

Hot water pressure is weak. Shower head isn't clogged. Cold water pressure is good. How do I increase the hot water pressure?

Is the hot water pressure good at other fixtures in the house? I'm guessing your newer valves have a scolding adjustment that is set very low. Check the instructions that came with the valve assembly.

If the faucet was working before and then just stopped, it is the mixing valve or a clogged supply line.
turn the water off and remove the mixing valve. Turn the water on and see if you have good flow from both hot and cold ports inside the faucet.
Caution- this procedure can get messy, close the shower curtain or door.
Call Kohler and ask for a new mixing valve for free.

Disassembled handle and initial pieces under handle to find leak source. Single handle shower assembly. reassembled. Cold water only, no hot water. What did I not assemble correctly?

Take handle back off and see if it has a dial that can be removed and repostioned. take off and move it about 1/4 turn counter clockwise and reinstalled and try to see if mixture is correct.

When turning on the shower faucet there is no hot water.

Can you remove handle , behind handle there should be a dial to move to increase hot or cold supply.

Remember where you start and remove it and replace a 1/8 to 1/4 turn counter clockwise, just put handle on try it and see if it changes and adjust accordingly.

No water coming out of my Kohler Forte R10275-4-BN shower valve

This is a pressure balancing valve that needs both cold and hot water pressure to operated. It is an anti-scald safety operation.

Good Luck, Phil
