The non-blu-ray laser lens needs cleaning.

Try not to use a blast of compressed air.

Radio Shack has a lens cleaner ($13). it is an audio CD with a row of brushes on it.
Read & follow the directions.

Blue ray will not play dvd but will play blue ray samsung db p1500

Blue ray uses a blue laser spectrum and DVD uses the red spectrum. The blueray player must have dual capability to play both red and blue spectrum discs. If it has been and is broken, contact the manufacturer for the 1 year warranty. If it has never played DVD then most likely its not compatible.

My bluray player is a samsung bd-p1500 and terminator salvation the bluray wont play it never even gets to the menu?

All disc players have a thing called stacked tolerance. What it boils down to is some transports in players will not play certain discs; plain and simple.

All you can do it test it out on another BD player to make sure the disc is fine and test another disc in your BD player and make sure it hasn't gone defective.

Sorry I don't have an easy fix, this is not an uncommon problem.

My BD-P1500 will not recognise a new non-blu-ray disc.

If its not a Blu-Ray disc, it wont have new technology that the Blu-Ray does not have installed so its unlikely a firmware update wil fix this as its generally for new Blu-Rays.

Does the disc playback in another player?

Is it the correct region code?

Do all other DVD-Video play ok?

Samsung BD-P1500 Plays Blu Ray but not DVD's

Nope. The laser mechanism seems to have developed a preference of its won and refuses to work with DVD media.
You have already done a firmware update so that is ng. Could be that when you updated it to play newer blue rays, the update messed up unit for dvd playback. Happens.

But do not sweat - that unit has a one year warranty - use it.
