I haven't had it burn completely through the light cover, but it has made a horrible brown bubble on it. That makes that side of the oven very dim compared to the other side. I replaced the bulbs with lower wattage bulbs, but haven't gotten a new cover. I have the same problem with a lmvm1945sw. I'm looking for parts and hoping there's an upgraded lens or something. Seems kinda dangerous in the there could be a fire from getting that hot.

Anyone have any luck finding new covers? A website and/or part number would be very helpful. Thank You. Anyone have any luck finding new covers? A website and/or part number would be very helpful. Thank You.

Same issue here. I just bought 4 covers from RepairClinic.com for $5.50 US each. I shipped them to my PO Box in Buffalo for an extra $6 bucks. Part number was 1206433

If the light enters the oven compartment through a plastic cover, you simply pry the cover off to access the bulb. If it enters through holes drilled into a wall or the ceiling, you will need to remove the U-shaped cover panel to access the bulb. You can find a replacement bulb at a hardware store.
The trick is patience, I hate it when I have to change this type of halogen bulb. First of all, if you have handled the bulb with your bare fingers wipe off the skin oils as their presence will make the bulb burn out or pop very quickly.
You can use a cloth, rubber or latex type glove. The gloves make it easier to handle the bulb. It is a matter of getting the prongs lined up with the sockets or holes. Looking at the socket and seeing how and where the holes are is helpful. Then try putting the bulb in to match the holes. If they aren't lined up move the bulb slightly, back and forth, with light pressure until you feel the openings and then press bulb in until it stops. Do this in the morning when you are fresh. Good luck.
GE uses a bulb that includes two flat pins. It looks like a bulb and removable socket, but it isn't. Just a way to cost you more. The bulb is removable from the top where it's mounted, and removed from the hole that it sticks vertically down thru. 1. You have to remove the unit cover to get to the bulb. 2. You have to unplug the connector to remove the bulb. 3. You have to squeeze two plastic pins, to extract the bulb from its location. This is not a common bulb; good luck finding one.
They are indeed the same bulb, a 10W halogen.
Care must be taken not to touch the lamp, as the oils from the skin will shorten its life.
In many recent models, the oven must be removed from the wall (a two-person job due to safety concerns) and the cover must be removed.
The manufacturers consider this a "technician-only" type job to lessen their liability.
You can find helpful exploded view diagrams of both ovens and order the bulbs here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383
