Most likely a motor coupler issue. Unplug you machine before starting this repair. Remove the two front end caps on the console (they snap out towards you). After removing the twp caps, you will see 2 console hold down screws down towards the bottom of the console. Remove these 2 screws, then gently pull the console towards you at the bottom, then lift the console up and over the top of the unit. You will see 2 gold looking clips, pop these clips out from the top of the cabinet, then remove the lid switch wiring from the rear of the machine (just snaps in and out). Rotate the entire cabinet (top rear of cabinet will rotate towards you) and remove. Near the bottom front, you will see the motor and pump assembly. Unsnap the pump and swing it out of the way (you do not need to remove the hoses), you can hold it in place with a long screwdriver, rope, etc. On the front of the motor you will see two clips being held in by screws. Remove the screws, then pop the two clips. The motor will now be free. As you remove the motor, you will see 1/3 of the motor coupler. The other part is a round rubber piece, and another that will looks just like the part on the motor (remove the transmission half by using a screwdriver from underneith). After you remove them, installation is reversed. Lightly tap on each motor coupler, in the center ONLY, with a long extension and a 9/16" socket. Part number for the motor coupler is 285753A, and can be purchased from a local appliance parts store (prefered), an Ebay item (also prefered, but a liitle wait on shipping) or Sears.com (not prefered, high mark-up on parts and shipping, takes a bit to get as well). Let me know if you need further info. Jim

Kenmore 3-speed spins slowly, sounds like gears stripping. If I hold up the agitator while spin runs, it makes less gear stripping noise, but still there and still slow spin.

You probably have a bad transmission. if this machine is older, it may not be worth the value of replacement due to price of the part.

Kenmore 90 series with speed selector switch set to heavy duty cycle it works fine any other setting , regular , hand wash setting the agitator makes a loud clicking sound as it agitates

sounds like a transmition problem. does the noise happen when it goes into spin on the other settings? If no noise in the spin cycle on the other setting, then it sounds like a the gears in the transmition internally when bad for the agitation.

Motor is humming loudly.

Motors hum, and your right, it could be no worse than normal.

I would be suspect that there is a gear stripped in the gearcase, since this is a direct drive washing machine.

Reassemble the motor back onto the washer. Run it through a cycle manually (rotate the timer by hand) until the motor turns, then look to see if it's turning. If it is, or even more so, if it pumps water out of the tub, then it is probably the stripped out gearcase.

Reply with you findings and more advice.
