iDevices (iPod, iPhone, etc) usually can only be managed through iTunes. So the first thing you should do is install iTunes (you can download it off Apple's website).
After installing iTunes and connecting your iPod, you must open My Computer then double click your iPod's icon. Then, click on Tools, Options, and in the View tab check the "Show hidden files and folders" option. You should then see an "iPod_Control" folder. Inside it there'll be a "Music" folder, with all your songs. Just drag them back to your computer.
But remember: you can only manage your iPod's music through iTunes. If you add or change songs on your iPod without using iTunes, these songs won't be recognized.
The first thing that you should do is download itunes from the apple
website at www.apple.com/itunes once installed open up itunes and then
plug in the supplied usb cable
into the ipod and the other end into your computer. From itunes you can
then go onto the apple store and buy music from the store or if you have
music on CDsyou can use itunes to pull the CDs onto your computer and from itunes
and clicking on the devices section you can transfer the music onto your
ipod. For more information to help you use your ipod fully it is well worth downloading a pdf manual off the apple website at http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipod Hope this helps.
Syncing music manually
If you prefer not to automatically sync music content to your iPod, you can set up manual syncing.
Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
Select iPod in the Devices section on the left side of the iTunes window.
In the main iTunes browser window, select the Summary tab.
Select the option to "Manually manage music and videos" or "Manually manage music." This will deselect the automatic sync settings for the Music, Movies, and TV Shows tabs. Automatic syncing for Podcasts, Photos, Contacts, and Games can be individually disabled by selecting those options in each of those tabs. Note: When manually managing iPod, disk use is enabled and iPod must always be manually ejected in iTunes before disconnecting it from your computer.
Click Apply.
To manually add music, audiobooks, movies or TV shows to your iPod, choose one of these categories under Library on the top-left of the iTunes window.
Select and drag items you want (to choose multiple items, Command-click items on a Mac or Control-click items in Windows), then drag them onto your iPod icon under Devices.
To add a playlist, select it from the left side of the iTunes window and drag it onto your iPod in the same way.
When you are ready to disconnect your iPod, select it under Devices and click the eject icon next to it.

I dont know how you feel with downloading music from limewire...or bearshare...but if you download from them you can update your itunes libary with the free songs you just downloaded
get itunes and install that and you should then be able to add music that way ( depending on if you have it enabled to manually manage music in which case you can drag and drop music onto your ipod or playlists or if you dont then you have to click on the ipod and go to teh music tab and click on the playlists you want to synch with your ipod )
There is another piece of software you can use instead of itunes if you dont like itunes and I will post that here in a bit
If you need clarification or are stuck post back and let me know
