I keep getting an (code 1) when I try to install a device by way of usb port

I was window shopping at Rite Aide and I saw these adapters that you plug into your USB ports and their out puts were 2.0 and others I think it was 12.00 USD

Try connecting the webcam to a different USB port and don't use any USB extension cable

check this things
1.make sure the minimum hardware and operating system requirements of the hardware to be installed are met.
2.just make sure the latest bios code is installed.
3.then make sure the usb is enabled in the BIOS. power on the system, press f1 to access the system configuration utility.click devices and i/o ports and then click usb.
5. make sure the usb controller and hub are listed in the device manager as will as any installed devices for the usb option.
6. then you can try the device in all available usb ports.if it works in other usb ports, the non working ports probably defective.

you usb ports are to slow for the usb 3.0 device that message keeps coming up saying that the device is better then your usb ports you have on your computer...almost every computer now have 3.0 usb ports that have very fast transfer rates for data back and forth. well i tell you the message you get is not trouble with your usb port it just trying to tell you the transfer rate will be slower with your usb 2.0 port... i hope this helps you.

Before you start working on the USB port, make sure that your device is not the problem. If the computer says that the there is a new USB device but that it cannot use it, typically there is a problem with the device's driver and not the USB port. If this is the case, your best option is to re-install or upgrade the device driver. Try inserting the device to another computer. If the device works, most likely the problem is with the computer and not your device.

Step 2
Try rebooting the machine. Rebooting a computer resets all of the software to the default state and will clean up many issues. The start up process also checks all of the devices on the computer and can sometimes fix a USB port. First shut down the machine. Connect the USB device up to the computer and start it. This reboot will sometimes fix a bad USB port.

Step 3
Try attaching the USB device on to another USB port on the same computer. If the device now works, the old USB port probably has a hardware or BIOS issue. Skip to step 5 to try to fix a bad USB port through the BIOS. Fixing a hardware problem on a USB port requires working on the motherboard which is typically more expensive just adding a new USB ports.

Step 4
Uninstall your computer's USB device bus manager. The device manager controls the USB access and sometimes gets corrupted. Fixing the USB device manager requires administrator rights on the machine. The best way to uninstall the device bus manager is to right click on your computer's icon and select properties. This will bring up the hardware settings for your machine. Click on the hardware tab and select the device manager. The device manager lists all of the devices on the computer. The next step is to open up the "Universal bus controller" option. Right click on all of the items under this option and uninstall them. Once all of the devices have been removed, restart the machine with the USB device connected. Upon reboot, windows re-installs the USB device manager. Most of the time, this will fix the USB port.

Step 5
The next thing to try is to check the BIOS. Restart the machine and enter the BIOS setup screen. You should check to make sure all of the USB ports are active. If they are, you should try resetting the BIOS settings to the defaults. The BIOS reset will sometimes fix USB port. But if it does not you will have to consider upgrading the BIOS. Upgrading a computer BIOS is very dependent on the motherboard manufacturer and you will have to visit your computer manufacturer's web site for detailed instructions.

Step 6
The last trick to try to fix a USB port is to repair your OS. Sometimes the USB drivers can get corrupted and break the USB ports. You can reinstall the system files onto the computer which should fix the USB port. Your data files should not be changed in this process, but it is a good idea to do a full backup of the computer ahead of time. In windows, an OS re-install is done by loading up the windows installation CD/DVD and selecting the repair windows installation. Just follow the steps and you often have a fixed USB port at the end of the process.

there are many devices you can get to add usb to an existing device....ext keyboard connection.pmc slot,com ports ,printer ports even usb ports to update usb 1 to usb2 (of course that ones no good for you)
these are all plug and play devices
you could also install one to pci (easy in desktop)

There are two possibilities:
1 - It could be a dead USB port. Are your ports listed in the device manager? If not, they are problably disabled in the system BIOS.
2 - Is the printer plugged in the same USB port that you used when you installed it? Some printers (no names here... keeps lawyers at bay) do the funny thing of installing themselves as a new device, but keeping the other connection as the default (so you create a huge list of pending documents, and when you plug it in the right place, it will print for days). Try recreating your steps when you were installing the thing.

Windows XP has Drivers within the operating system to Install and setup USB Ports.
Here Are your options to Provide A Fix.
1: )The USB Port May Be Disconnected From The motherboard.
2:) The Device you are trying to Connect ( Pen-Drive ) May be faulty And Not Recognised By The Computer.

3:) The USB Cable Or Socket May Be Faulty.

Solution:- Try Connecting the Device To An Alternative ( different ) USB Socket On The PC.

Solution:- Try Connecting a Different Device to the USB Port. i.e MP3 player Or Digital Camera et,c.

Solution:- Check that the USB Header Cables ( from Motherboard To USB Ports ) Are connected Or incorrectly Connected.
