Over-full can be just as bad as under-full. The crank will make contact with the oil and cause a froth of oil and air. Air is a very poor lubricant and will cause serious engine damage. Park the vehicle on a perfectly level surface and shut the engine off. Wait at least 30 minutes and then check the oil level. If it is over-full drain out enough to get it down to the full mark. Never ever over-fill an engine. Your car holds 4.5 quarts with filter change.

My dash light flashed At Oil Temp light. I added 3 quarts of transmission fluid and started driving. Smoke pored from from my tranny getting hot. Help

Oil temperatur? and oil level should not be mistaken, the three quarts or any extra oil or fluid should be removed.
There may be a flow restriction, oil or fluid filter, bottom pan is bent, fluid is burnt and darkened, temperature sensor problem. Oil/fluid cooler problem.

Kia forte 2010 oil light flashes, then added one quart

Probably more than one quart low. Check for leaks, gasket failure, poor maintenance.

My 2002 chevy impala's "low engine oil" light was flashing red and making a ringing sound. I checked the oil level and it needed to have a quart added, but it still had some oil on the dipstick. I added...

Yes it is safe to drive it now. But i would recheck your oil level before you drive it. As long as the oil level is where it is supposed to be, then you will be fine.

Oil light never came on, I decide to put 4 quarts due to it being 10 months since change, since doing so low oil light has come on

4 quarts means that youve got one serious leak and your slicking up the roads for every body... you should get out some tools and see what you can snug up to slow the leak, as for the light, your driving a cheap vehicle so what do you expect ?

My oil light came on for my 1999 chevy cavalier, it was a quart low,I added it and it was fine but a few days later the oil light came on again

You must have an oil leak . And if you are looseing that much oil that fast its got to be a main bearing seal likely the rear . Get a good size peice of cardboard and put it under the vehicle near where the transmission meats the engine . Do it fast after you park it so the engine will still have some pressure and see where its leaking . You could not possibably burn that much oil in a few days no matter how worn the engine is . But the first step it to locate where its leaking from

I changed the oil sensor on my 1997 mercury villager van, and it is still leaking oil. The oil lite never has come on and I checked oil last night and it was one quart low. Could the gasket on the oil...

The oil is leaking from wherever you see oil on the engine. Sometimes there can be to much oil covering the engine and it needs to be degreased. A dye can also be added to the oil that will illuminate when a dye light is used to help track down a leak. If the oil pressure switch you removed wasn't wet with oil or leaking than it wasn't bad.

It could be anything from the valve cover gaskets, cam seals, front crank seal, oil pan gasket, rear main seal or head gaskets.

Hi,I have 1995 1500 chev suburban, just the other day I started to hear this low ticking sound,i checked the oil i poured 2qrts.of oil in. After a while my oil needle kept jumping and the check guage lite...

I would immediately take it back to wherever you got the oil change, and at least get it documented that it was two quarts low. check under vehicle to make sure it is not still leaking. Sometimes the oil filter seal gets stuck on after the old filter is removed, then the new filter is put on and you have two gaskets, that 100% of the time do not line up correctly and leaks when engine is under power. and may not leak at idle or static. If you have a friend to go with you as a witness, make sure they put it up on the rack in front of you to check the oil filter gasket and the drain plug (bolt). If it was their fault you may have recourse if severe damage to your engine occurred. This 5.7 liter should run normal on 3 quarts, but not at all the best thing to do to your engine.

Two day ago i got the engine lite on the dash

The "check engine" light has NOTHING to do with oil or oil level. There is a problem with the fuel injection, transmission or emission system with your van. Youy will need a qualified repair shop check it out and recommend repairs.
