I bought a used chest freezer. Its 4 foot long, 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide. I plugged it in over night and checked it in the morning and it still was not cold. There was nothing in it over night, could that be the problem? It is on the coldest setting being setting "7". I can not hear it running, but the light on the front of the freezer is on, so it must be on, how do I check it to see what is wrong with it?
Thank you,
Alissa
Open the area where the compressor is behind the unit. Should be a few screws to access it. With freezer plugged in place your hand on the top of the compressor. Is it hot?? ...yes and you can feel an international click every minute or so??? The compressor is dead and is going off on an internat overload. Or..... the motors starting components are dead not giving the compressor the added kick start it needs to get going. It's called a 3n1 start kit for compressors it's a universal starting component for compressors and comes with directions how to install
Alissa,
Try placing two or three jugs of water in the freezer and wait 36 hrs. before opening.. If the water is frozen solid you have no problems.. if its not frozen, the call a service tech..

I am having the same problem. How long did it take?
I bought mine second hand and think it may be broken. I plugged it in 8 hours ago. I can hear it running but it's not cold yet.
SOURCE: Cold morn - not starting. Car was moved a few feet night before.
OK, so starting the engine uses a lot of battery power, and the engine needs to be left running a while to recharge the battery.
When it is cold batterys don't hold as much charge (not quite the correct technical term, but I don't want to go into battery mechanics and chemistry here). You either need to pop it on a trickle charger or let it run for at least 15 minutes.

I would plug it into a different plug in - not one that is on the same circuit that it is plugged into now. If the plug in is working for other things, it still may be bad and not able to handle the load of the freezer. If your freezer will not work on a completely different circuit, then there could be something wrong with the freezer, but it is not likely since two of them should not be bad. Seems to me more like an electrical problem in your location. Hope this helps you, Rick

Hi, can you put your hands on front of freezer, and check from 1 to 5 without getting burn? how long can you keep your hands on front of freezer? check from 1 to 20 and let me know, normally there's a condensate line, or part of condenser lines that passes through freezer body , purpose of those condensate line is to prevent your door gasket from freezing , especially during winter. It's normal for front of freezer to be warmed, on hot days it will be a little hotter, you said "very hot" makes me wonder how hot it is, put your hands on front of freezer, use number method and let me know, but it's normal. good luck.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your useful advice."

If it is a magic chef the model number will be on the back of the fridge and will have to order the exact defrost timer for this model. Only place to get will be from repairclinic.com
