Well the cheapest way is to go into record mode, cap the lens with the black lens cap and record a 'black' picture on the tape. This will erase all the pictures on the tape and leave you with a 'black' screen on the whole tape.

How do i earse a tape from a sony handycam

As with most tape recorders, there is no separate "erase" function. You just tape over it. If there is a write protect tab you will have to make sure that it is write enabled.

How do I erase a tape without rerecording on my sony DCR-TRV140

on this model sony it does not have an erase feature. I have called sony and confirmed this. The feature that would do that is called flying erase heads. So your option would be to either record over the tape or buy a player than can erase but a eraser is 300$usd-400$usd which really isnt cost effective just to erase a tape.

Dear sir my sony Handycam model DCR-TRV285E,

Look at the rear end of the tape cass and if the red tag is over the hole this prevents movies being erased, just push tag over to expose the hole and your tape will (should) be okay and work again.
Be aware that if you pressed this tag over to stop recording, are you sure nothing is on tape you want to keep?

How do I erase a hi8 tape on a sony ccd trv318 camcorder

Don't think you can erase it, just record over it.
If you really have to erase something you don't want on it, you can always rewind and then put on the lense cap and record.

How can I erase tapes that I've used on my Sony Handycam DCR-HC46?

There use to be a degausing magnet made for just that. It is shaped like an iron and it is an ac electro magnet that turned on and off just to make tyhe magnetic poles swap and this Magnetic flux that can not be seen would jumble up the magnetic tape info by arbitray misaligning them on a molecular structured level. In turn messing up the information like scribbling on a writen document...

Eraser

Yeah, a strong magnatic field can erase whole tape at once. You can try it by using Deggausing Coil at TV repair shops, though i have not tried it yet.
