Surround sound not working properly

I just bought an xbox HD unit to add to the 360. I have an AMP and surround sound speakers.

When playing games and dvds on the console the main sound comes through the right channel speaker not the centre channel.

the same problem occurs with the HD unit, playing both standard and HD dvds.
The speakers are correctly wired as my phillips dvd player works fine with the main sound coming through the centre speaker.

I use digital optical from 360 to AMP. The AMP supports 5.1 and DTS and has two digital optical ports. i have used both ports and selected all the available audio options from the console and the HD unit. The problem is the same with every choice except dolby stereo which works fine but defeats the object of having surround sound.

This isnt a solution to your problem but i have a suggestion. I see this problem has been posted a couple days now and i think that because your problem looks like it involves more stereo equipment rather than the xbox 360 console. i think you would get a better answer actually a soltuion if you posted this in the stereo section.

Xbox 360 and bose surround sound no video

If your TV is HD, you should definitely be connecting the component video cables (green, blue and red) from the 360 to the TV (the 321 will not do video pass-thru from component cables). -Make sure you have a picture at this point. (TV switched to whichever input you connect the 360 to)
You can get an RCA extension cable for the audio portion (red and white) to connect to the 321 for audio. You could also connect an optical audio cable to the 321. An optical cable must be assigned from the system menu to work..
Let me know if this helps.

Can't get XBOX 360 to have audio through surround sound speaker

Make sure that you have the RC Cables (red and white) plugged into the audio ports that coincides with the component video inputs. If that wont work then try plugging the audio and video cables into the inputs for the satellite, since that works. That way you can isolate the issue. If it still wont work try using the XBOX 360 HDMI cable. That has both audio and video.

HTS-GS1 Surround Sound System cannot be utilized for tv.

Check Your TV audio setup, many TV makers out there would like you to turn off the tv speakers in order to use the external speakers.
