Regarding the canon hv20 camcorder. When using an external canon MIC a) How do you know the mic is working and you are not picking up sound on the internal MIC b)On connecting the external MIC an icon...

If you put the camcorder in manual mode, there is a microphone sensor that will move when sound is picked up by the external microphone. In manual you can keep everything else automatic. The off for the mic means that the built in mic is turned off when an external mic is attached.

the external mic must be unplugged for it to work and you need to reconfigure the internal mic if it doesn't work... there should be an option for this under start>settings>control panel> audio> microphone

No you can't !! This unit only has an audio out but the mic is built into it. You have to speak into the WBT210 when you connect to a phone call.
