Unable to pull starter cord at all

I had not started my Honda generator in over a year. I pulled on the starter cord and it pulled with great resistance at first and then would not pull at all. I removed the spark plug and tried to pull it but it still would not move.

How can I replace starter pull cord?

Hi James:
Replacing any starter cord is usually a matter of removing the pull start assembly, pulling the cord until it is completely unwound, block the reel so it cannot retract, remove the old cord, (remember EXACTLY how it was connected), install a new cord, unblock the reel so it can retract, re-install the assembly.
It may be necessary to remove covers or engine shrouds to get to the pull start assembly. That's part of the fun of "do-it-yourself".
Cheers..

I already broke one recoil starter assembly on my Astra Korea 3 kVA generator. I can start the generator, but with great effort. It takes about 6-8 pulls, and there's so much resistance that I can actually...

The easiest test to run on the generator is to remove the spark plug and see if it pulls easier. If it does then it is a compression problem. I doubt that is the case. If it does not then you need to take the generator off the motor and see if it still pulls hard.

If my generator shut off due to low lubricant will it reset automatically? If not is there a reset valve/button?

The pull cord is like a starter on a car (separate from the motor/engine). If the pull cord will not turn it could be because the motor/engine is seized.

Did you remember to "wind" the cord when you replaced it. They normally have a spring type of set up that you have to wind before you bolt everything together.

1 assuming sparkplug is good / in / /newish??
Fuel needs to be filled.. I suggest premium only (less residue if it sits for long.)
fill oil.. top up..
d/c electric plugs
then
togle ignition switch to on
turn fuel cap to on
turn fuel switch (sw) to on
move choke to start if engine is cold start.
pull starter cord ..
good luck
ps.. I have learned to run engine dry of fuel after use. turn off fuel (sw).. this empties carb.. You may have to pull starter cord a few times with next start to bring the fuel down..

Honda EU3000is generator will not start with electric starter.

I'd say your battery in the generator is going bad or bad. They are very small and do not hold a charge for very long. The noise you heard was probably the starter shaft hitting the flywheel cogs. I doubt any harm was done as long as you did not repeatedly try to start it with the key. Why Honda put a battery in these is because they are intended for use in a campground setting, where they would be used on a daily basis and the battery would constantly charged. Whereas people like us buy them for emergencies only, they sit for long periods, and the battery goes flat, and the fuel clogs the carb and we get the surging issue. That's my 2 cents. When I brought mine home new, I Sta-bil'd the heck out of the gasoline, this past winter, on start-up, the unit surges. Of course the battery was flat.
