How do I clear meesages that are waiting and stop that red light from blinking? I'm borrowing the phone from a friend and she doesn't remember the password to get in
Leave yourself a message, listen to it, then save it in your voicemail box. This will reset the phone company's answer system. I only have the blinking problem when my voicemailbox with comcast is empty.

Message Waiting Indicator Your phone's message waiting indicator is either a light or special tone that alerts you when you have voice mail.
Occasionally, the message waiting indicator may be out of sync with your mailbox. In that case, the indicator light or tone is ON but there are no messages waiting, or the indicator light or tone is OFF when there are new messages waiting.
To get the message indicator back in sync
Save or delete all new messages
Hang up.
If the message indicator does not go out or stop within a few minutes, there may be a problem, and you should contact Verizon.
If the message indicator does go out or stop, call your own number and leave a message
Hang up and wait
If the indicator light or tone does not come on within a few minutes, there may be a problem, and you should contact the vender.
My first guess is this button may be programmed as a message waiting indicator light for ext 1499. Go to the physical desk location of ext 1499 and see if the message light is on. Clear the message waiting and the companion appearance of this line on your phone should clear. Hope this helps.
Hi When your red light is on with the handest down presss the message key. this will tell you where the message has come from. I expect you will see that an internal extension has dialled you by mistake. It is a message waiting function on the system for user to call back on. Nothing to worry about. To clear the light you have 2 options either press the clear button on the display for each message or dial *700(then your extension number)
You're probably subscribed to a voicemail system offered by your telephone company, and the phone is telling you there are messages waiting. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.
The light may be a "new call indication" or "message waiting" indication if you have voicemail service from the phone company. If you clear the caller id log or clear the voice message the light should go out. BUT, it will keep coming back on when a new call arrives! I have a similar phone and I just put a piece of tape that matches the color of the phone over the light.
The term we used for this back when I worked for the phone company was a "stuck message waiting indicator" and the way to fix it was:
Call yourself and leave a message. Hang up and wait 2 minutes (we used to say 5 minutes, but 2 is plenty) Retreive/delete your voice mail message Hang up and wait 2 minutes
