No sound on my dell laptop

My dell 710m has been fantastic until recently. i try to listen to my music while surfing but i can't. if i close the lcd screen to a 45 degree angle i can hear music, but if i flex it to anything greater than that the sound cuts out. sounds like a short somewhere...any ideas?

My speakers played for a while when I would have the screen almost closed and they don't play at all. Has anyone come up with a way to repair this?

I'm thinking when was the last time you reformatted? I know it's a hassel but it comes the time when you have no choice. Do you have your audio coming from the screen? It so then I would try speakers. They're cheap enough these days. If this works then I would be hopeful that your screen is still under warranty. If not then you may need to pull your laptop apart and replace the sound card.

If you're unsure as how to dismantle your laptop there are sites you can go to to assist you. I strongly believe in doing it myself. This taught me many lessons on how to do laptop hardware repairs and replacements.

sorry i gave you the wrong advice regarding your lattop before. I was thinking about a PC that required fixing here and I was giving you that PC advice when I was typing to you. I"m thinking more that it could be a loose connection somewhere. You may still choose to look up those sites but often you may have no choice but to take it to someone who has the correct tools for this job. Often the sites don't show enough detail in their diagrams.

My 5 year old Dell Inspiron 710m screen is cracked. My son hit it with a remote and it has black fuzzy stuff throughout it that is spreading. What can I do?

So sorry about the cracked screen. But the solution to cracked screens is replacement.
But pending the time it can be replaced, if you have a desktop monitor, you can connect it to it.
If not, a flat screen TV could do the job of display, using the monitor display cable.

Hope that helped?

No sound in Dell Inspiron 710m Cannot play music or talk on skype.

Make sure you installed the sound driver properly and it is not showing yellow mark in device manager. if it is there kindly follow this steps to solve this problem .1st thing you need sound driver if you have original disk or software with that is fine otherwise you can download the driver from this link,
Right click on my computer and go to properties then hardware in that click on device manger and choose the sound and game controller option just expand the list it will show the sound card. If there is any other device is listed with yellow mark just uninstall it and click on scan for hardware changes.

The sound only works when the screen is in a certain position

The Dell 700 series laptops have a common fail on the sound, because of a some what fragile ribbon cable that feeds the speakers that are mounted just below the LCD display. Your sould still works, just the ribbon cable is cracked, from opening and closing the lid.

You can find the part on ebay for less than $20, but it does require a bit of disassembly to get it swapped out.

My Dell 710m laptop no longer produces sound from the speakers. Headphones work fine, but nothing from the speakers. All sound/volume settings are on. Any advice?

Yes, since I have one, I know where the likely failure point is on the system. The wires for the speakers go thru the right hinge assembly and if you remove the LCD hinge cover you'll likely find a broken wire there at the chafing point (That is where mine broke) so very careful wire splicing and a bit of shrink wrap did wonders.

Dell Inspiron 710m laptop speakers no sound,

Chances are that the wires connecting the speakers to the main board have been cut. The same thing happened on my 710m, I no longer have any sound and have been trying to figure out how to get replacements, I've found a few on Google, but have some apprehension about opening up the whole thing and replacing them.
Hope yours is just a driver problem.

Cd/dvd drive

You can see a hole located on the tray of the cd rom drive. Commonly seen beside the button to eject the cd out. Grab a small pin and push the hole and this should eject the tray. Close the tray again by pressing the button. Eject it using the button. If everything still failed, call up Dell to have the CD Rom Drive replaced.
