After removing the side cover, I had to turn the machine upside down in order to get the PTFE spray into the top bushing. I manually moved the foot up and down and just gave a light spray to all moving parts. Our 1471 is all good again. After removing the side cover, I had to turn the machine upside down in order to get the PTFE spray into the top bushing. It's not the foot, it is the 'Feed Dogs', the teeth in the base that pull the material UNDER the foot. The most likely reason is that you have lowered them too much, or set it to 'embroidery'.
there is a spring on the presser foot applying pressure when you release the lever, so that there is constant downward pressure onto the fabric from the foot as you stitch. If there seems to be no pressure on the presser foot, then this spring may have broken. If this is a Star series TSP with a beige top and white body, then you undo screws on the top panel to gain access. There is also a TSP in the Air Electronic later model range, there is also two screws on top but you need to work around the carry handle to actually lift and move the top panel to the back of the machine. I'd suggest this could be a job for the SM repair mechanic.
You need a special foot for free motion quilting--it is slightly shorter in height than a regular presser foot, which essentially provides space between the presser foot and the needle plate to manually move the fabric. Sometimes machines came with a standard darning foot accessory. Your Pfaff dealer probably has at least one style in stock. But there are other specialty feet you can probably use, ie Big Foot, clear free motion foot, C-shaped, oval, etc. You can also purchase a shank adapter (verify it is the correct shank for your machine) and use it with a kit of snap-on presser feet so you can have a variety of presser feet for different functions.
Machine breaks needles
1.make sure you are using the right needle for your type of sewing machine.
. There are cases where the machine will only use ones specified in the owners manual.
2.the presser foot may not be installed properly
3.use the correct needle for the type of fabric you are working with. To fine of needle on heavy fabric or to course a needle on silk or jersey can damage fabric.
4.let the feed dogs guide the fabric & the feed dogs will work with the presser foot .
5.the needle is not all the way in -push all the way up against the stop
6. Check top thread tension
Either the presser foot does not have enough pressure on it or it is not lowering all the way to the fabric. Remove the fabric.lower the presser foot.If the presser foot has no or little pressure look for the pressure regulator on top the machine or on the left side and see if you can make it tighter. Not all machines have this.Look to see if there is space between the foot and the teeth when you turn the handwheel. If there is space then the machine needs an adjustment. sewman7
Make sure you have the presser lifter lever in the proper position. When lowering it, push to the rear and it will stop half way down. This engages the upper tension but keeps the foot from lowering down and touching the fabric. If this doesn't help please post the exact problem, i.e. thread pulling to the bottom etc. Good luck!
