Jvc receiver OVERLOAD

I had the same problem. Dont know why the receiver set it up this way but grab your remote, go down to the lower right and select ch setup. Keep on pressing it till your receiver says SW. Then press lev+ on your remote to change the db on your powered sub.

Any old subwoofer or is there a specific one? It's manual might give some clues.

It only drives a self-powerd sub.

Setting the Subwoofer Information

Register whether you have connected a subwoofer or not.

Before you start, remember....

• There is a time limit in doing the following steps. If the setting is canceled before you finish, start from step 1 again.

On the front panel ONLY:

1. Press SETTING repeatedly until "SUBWOOFER" appears on the display.

The display changes to show the current setting.

2. Press CONTROL UP / DOWN to select "YES" or "NO."

• Each time you press the button, the display alternates between "YES" and "NO."

YES: Select this when a subwoofer is connected.

NO: Select this when no subwoofer is used.

Note:

You cannot use SUBWOOFER OUT ON/OFF on the front panel (see page 14) and adjust the subwoofer output level (see below) when "SUBWOOFER" is set to "NO."


Then continue with setting its relative level and other things.

Here's how I'd do it... connect the subwoofer pre-out to one of the unused analog inputs (CD or CD-R perhaps?). Turn on Zone 2 by pressing the MULTI-ZONE ON/OFF button. The MULTI-ZONE indicator will light.

Press CONTROL. (Zone 2 should display) Use the INPUT SELECTOR dial to select the source for the zone you have selected. In my example, CD or CD-R.

Of course, you'll need the sub hooked up to the Surround back speaker terminals.

Things to keep in mind:
The Surround Back setting must be set to ZONE 2. See page 41 of the manual.
The volume level going to the sub will probably need some tweaking. Check out page 7 to see how to manually adjust volume levels, or get it close by adjusting the Master Volume while in Zone 2 control.

I'm not sure if the auto setup function (with the included microphone) will work properly with this setup. And, of course, this is not a "suggested" setup by Pioneer, so please use caution when hooking everything up.

The level control controls the input level coming from your head unit (receiver) to the amp.

Your Sony users manual is a little vague on how to best adjust the level and other controls.

Here is one method that some installers use and works well with most amps.

Most 10" subs sound best between about 80-100hz and below, so start out by setting the LPF at about 80hz. The HPF will not be used. Next turn the bass boost and gain all the way down. Turn on the radio and set all tone controls, bass, midrange, treble to flat, usually "0" on most head units. Turn the volume up to approximately 3/4 volume level or just until you begin to hear distortion. Now, back the volume down until the distortion is gone. Next turn up the gain control on the amp until you hear the subs start to distort then back the gain down until the distortion disappears. Next turn the bass boost up again until the subs begin to distort, then either back the bass boost down or back the gain down until the distortion is gone. You may need to play around with the bass boost and gain controls to get exactly the sound you prefer.

first confirm power cord is firmly inserted----change cable between sub and receiver--repeat your setup for speaker.

i had the same problem when i tried to adjust speaker output levels, distance and equalizer manually without using audessy setup..so i reset everything to factory setting (0s)..and then ran 
audessy setup..reduce volume on your subwoofer to slightly above minimum(behind the subwoofer) before running the setup..once audessy setup is completed successfully..i started changing setup
manually..changed speaker config for front speaker to small (it is set as large by audessy setup), this should automatically adjust center and other speaker configuration (if not make sure to set them to small as well), then set the cross over frequency to 120..increase the volume on your subwoofer and now you should hear it fire..if this does not help..try playing some rock music with all channel streo mode..if your subwoofer does not fire even for this..then take the system back for exchange..

No, one of your speakers is damaged (could be an amp channel went bad, but speaker is more likely). Unplug all spkrs, then plug one in and see if it acts normal when turned up. Repeat this until all speakers are hooked up or the culprit spkr is found.

Firstly check all your speaker wiring. Any damage can cause a short which will overload the system. You might not notice it, due to the fact that when you have the system on loud, vibrations move the wires on the cabinets or elsewhere. So make certain there are no loose wires near the speakers terminals into each one. If all that is good go to the next check.
Check If the amp is getting VERY hot when the overload occurs, then it might have a faulty part(s) on it. This might have occurred if you have been using speakers that never did match the amps requirements in the first place.

As per the instruction manual the overload is there because of high volume condidtions and your over heating the unit. They recomend to turn down the volume shut off the reciver wait a few minutes and turn back on the unit with lower volumes. Second it states that the peaker wires or speakers could be shorted so make sure the speakers are good and the wires when you connected them to the reciver are not shorted. If all is hooked up properly then you have a problem in the output stage of the amp and its gonna need service unless you know how to replace the defective output devices?
