Kenmore dishwasher locks. after cycle, can't open door

get an exploded view of the mechanism from an online service manual or schematic.
dissasemble mechanism
examine for worn areas as that may be a contributor. if badly worn, it could be the entire cause
worn hinges on the door or damage to door by way of alignment could lock up the door. check for that first. if that's not it, then...
remove electro-mechanical actuators (solenoids or other mechanisms)
install new ones.
there are appliance parts distributors in most metro areas.

additional comment. the washer stays locked during part of the cycle. not sure you understood my comment about worn parts. once it locks, it may not easily unlock. also, there could be something about the gasket seal that puts pressure on the door lock which would make it hard for the door to unlock due to extra resistance. kinda like pushing against a bedroom door and then trying to turn the handle. if there is enough resistance, the door handle will not turn.
