If I leave any program running and am not actually using my computer-mouse or keypad, my screen goes black after a few minuets (like its in sleep mode) . Display will not come back up by moving the mouse or typing enter on the keypad. I end up having to power off and then back up. And although this works I've lost whatever I was working on.Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance!!
Have you checked the settings in your screen-saver and power options in the display control panel?
open Control panel > open display > click the screen saver tab on top > click the power button in the monitor power section
In the power options properties under power schemes you can set the turn off monitor to whatever time allotment you wish , including never.
You can also set the hard drive to shut down or not. And the system standby.
Personally I set system standby to never and turn off hard disks to never because sometimes windows has issues in returning from standby. I set turn off monitor to 20 minutes, and it resumes by movement of the mouse or touching a key on the keyboard.
Under the advanced tab there is a section labeled power buttons. If either of those is set to standby, that could be causing the problem.
Under the Hibernation tab, you could select to enable hibernation, and while it will still act the same way it does now, but at least whatever you were working on will be there when it resumes... (The problem with that scenario is that windows has issues with resuming from hibernation with certain manufacturers products.)
1 other thing to check... in your bios, check the ACPI or
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface and disable any standby, doze, hibernate, suspend, or timeout options. Under ACPI or APM select user defined. This allows your OS to handle power management which handles device conflicts better than the bios.
