Sounds like the extension needs to be programed to ring for incomming calls.
ProgrammingLine can be answered, but the phone won't ring - 2.gif is done on M7310, M7324 and T7316 sets.
To set up ringing you need to enter Line can be answered, but the phone won't ring - 2.gifamming2.gif by pressing the feature key followed by **266344.

When prompted to enter the password enter 266344.
The screen should say TERMINALS&SETS. The 4 top line/feature keys are now used for programming.

At the terminals&sets prompt, press the show key (top right arrow).
The display should now ask for an extension number.
Enter extension number you wish to program ringing on.
Press the show key (top right arrow)
The display should sat LINE ACCESS
Press the show key (top right arrow) .
The display should say LINE ASSIGNMENT.
Press the show key (top right arrow) .
The display ask for a line number. press list
The display should say line 001: appear only
press the Chng key till it says appear & ring
press next key (lower right arrow)continue with the remainder of the incoming lines that you have on your telephone
press the release key when finished

Thank you SO much for posting a response to this question! You just saved my company $170.00 and me even more headache, after reading the phone manual front to back (221+ pages) and not being able to figure out how to get the phones to ring.

This doesn't work for me. After pressing the show key LINE ACCESS is not an option, nor is LINE ASSIGNMENT. The display goes to CAPABILITIES instead. Any other ideas....

I have the same problem, but it is on T7208. When I try entering **266344, it is telling me access denied. Any solutions on this?

Phone rings once, but then stops ringing and I can't answer the call

If you have a landline, most likely you have a short in it. Not enough to kill line, but, when the 90 volts a.c. comes in to ring it jumps short. The short answers the phone.. It doesn't stop out going but can cause static. Check the line at the box outside. if bad there call your phone company, if good there, trouble is in house

I am using a Nortel T7208/T7316 sets (BCM 450 PBX) system, and I want to program a phone to ring when someone calls the main line. Most of our phones only ring when you type the extension internally. I...

The phone must be programmed with the target line assigned to the number you wish to have ring at that phone. This can be done with the BCM Element Manager interface. If your BCM450 is running version 6, I think this can even be done directly from the phone, but I'm not sure of that process.

I just wanted to ask how to shorten the number of rings before it goes to voicemail on a t7316 and t7208 phone. Thanks

You may need a tech if unsure of programming, passwords and navigation.
In Config or Admin under Sets/Capabilities you will see Forward No Answer, that needs to be pointed to the voice mail ext # (F985 to see what that is), then after that setting is the ring count....4 is recommended for average office staff.

Fax rings but machine doesn't answer

First check the setup/configuration and make sure the Fax is set to answer on 1 or 5 rings. If the line is dedicated to fax then it can be set to answer after the first ring. Fax machine works off a modem that listens for the ring and handshake tones. If the machine has been hit with a lightening spike then the hearing portion may be dead.
Translation: Your fax machine is Deaf and can not hear the ring.
It will never answer and do the fax handshake required.
If it is a new machine and still under warranty. Take it back as soon as you can.

If this is a fax machine installed at work.
Be careful, some phone systems used in the corporate buildings have too high a voltage and will fry the modem/fax card.

If this is a home machine with DSL.
Make sure the DSL line filter is applied correctly.
It will be clearly marked Phone or DSL line. Do NOT connect the phone/fax line into the DSL line connection.

Hope this helps!
Good luck!

I am considering buying a Nortel T7208 2 Line phone for my home office. I have two separate lines, with two separate numbers. I need a phone that will allow me to plug both lines into the desk top unit. I...

Hi there...

OK, the Nortel T7208 set works only on a Nortel system.
It has only one line cord plugged into it, cause the telephone system can be programmed for more telephone lines and features from the system.

If you want just a home (analog) telephone service; look at Aastra/ Telematrix/ there are others - 2 line sets.

ONLY buy this Nortel set is you have a Norstar system. Otherwise the set will not work for you. It needs a system to run off.

Good luck in your search!

Mitel 5220 IP phone won't ring when the main line is ringing

WOW
Ok this post is OLD, but for anyone else having this issue, this is the solution...

There is a programming feature that states: DELAYED RING on certain lines, meaning you can physically see a call coming in to the system (via line flashing), but it will not ring at your desk till something like the 4th ring(hence the name DELAYED ring).

If your set does not ring, and you pick up the heandset, the phone system doesn't know if you want to answer the call -or- you just want to make an outgoing call...
Therefore the Mitel system picks up internal dialtone and waits for you to make the initial reaction (hit 9 for a line out or hit a line that is flashing on the set).

Too change this option, a Mitel Tech is required...
