Make sure your antenna is tuned properly. The light comes on when the SWR is too high. This damages the final transmission transistor. You can blow the transmit in the radio.
If you need to tune your antenna and do not know now, go here and follow the instructions...
tune SWR
there could already be some damage to the final transistor already, it may be why the light stays on. Tune the antenna according to the article and then if the light stays on again, there may be something wrong with the radio, or the warning light is not adjusted correctly.
If your swr is okay, then turn vr6 all the way down so the light does not come on.
If the antenna light stays on, does the radio stay in the transmit mode after you un-key the mic?
1st thing, try a different mic. This doesn't take much effort to swap mics and see. Borrow one if you can. If not, purchase a replacement mic....they're usually inexpensive and it's good to have a spare anyway.
2nd thing, check your antenna connections and your antenna(s).
If neither of these troubleshooting do-it-yourself remedies help, it is likely in a transmit diode in your radio. Have it professionally fixed.
At least you'll know whether it is a mic or antenna problem to start with that you can fix, and an unscrupulous "radio doc" won't take your money for something you could've fixed on your own.
One other thing, if you take your radio in-hand to a shop for repairs, this repair doesn't take but a few minutes if it's only a diode. STAY WITH YOUR RADIO!! Don't leave it unless you TRUST the people in the shop who do the work!!!!
