Mixer wont turn on

I have a two fold problem.

First I tried to run the mixer with a lump of brown sugar and may have stripped the gears. I assume this is the gear I need to replace http://www.neilcrockett.com/mixer.htm .

However before I found this problem, I removed the brushes and when trying to restart it I left the power running when reinstalling them. As I reinstalled the brush it sparked and now the mixer won't turn on either.

Any suggestions on how I might get the motor running befor replacing the worm gear.

It sounds like stripped gears, does the mixer still turn on? The beater just wont spin anymore?

If that is the case the worm gear probably stripped out, that is part number w10112253, or for a quicker easier fix you can get that gear in an assembly for a couple more dollars, that would be part number 240309-2.

Here is a link to those parts on our website:

Wont mix motor euns beater skips

This will be caused by a stripped gear. However there are several gears that may have stripped and you will need to take the mixer apart and inspect the gears.
I would need the model number of your mixer to determine what parts you would need.
Thank you,

I have had my stand mixer for approximately 12 years with no problems until today. The mixer attachment I used will not come off. The gear/top continues to turn under my pressure as I try to lift up on the...

Tap it with a spatula handle, something with a little weight to it but soft like plastic or wood. Give it some pressure in the direction you want it to go and then hit it in that direction too.

Run a little sandpaper inside the mounting hole in the attachment when you get it off, it's probably got a little corrosion on it. Sugar can make them stick too, a little hot water brushed on will help if it's got sugar in it.

My 325 watt, 5 quart artisan stand mixer won't work on "stir" speed. All other speeds work fine, but when I put the switch on stir, I just hear the motor whining like it's trying to work, but...

By not working to mean that the planetary gear wont move? or does it just make a weird noise when it is on a low setting? If the gear is completely stripped the unit shouldn't run on any speed regardless if there is mixture in the bowl or not. Since I can't see the mixer I would say that there might be a slight tear in the gear which would only allow the mixer to get stuck on a slow speed where as on a high speed it is running fast enough to skip that particular tooth. I understand that the mixer is brand new but when it comes to mixers you can strip a gear right out of the box depending on the consistency of the batter you are mixing. If the machine is under a year old it is under warranty and you are allowed free service by an authorized repair center in your area.

Seized mixer

It sounds like a stripped gear. Altho I can't find the parts diagram for the K5Awh I have found the diagram for the similar mixer with the lift bowl feature. Check the diagram below and make sure it is similar to your K5 machine since there are two designs for the motor on the lift bowl.

Look at the diagram below and find 9709231 worm gear item #18 in:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10157992.pdf

It is the one which usually strips. It can be purchased online for between 12 and 25 dollars so check the part number and put it into google to find the best price. Let me know if the motor design is different from what is shown in this parts list.

Take it apart first and see which gear is stripped.

alternate parts list is:

and the gear number is

Beaters will not turn, motor runs....

They seem to have a plastic gear built in as protection for overloading (prob). When the machine counters to much resistance that gear will strip its teeth causing the machine to not be able to turn, that it what seems to be the grinding problem. If it is not the plastic gear then it another gear that is "stripped(of its "teeth") I hope your problem is not a severe, but if your mixer is "locked up" then at least you found the problem...

Hope this helped, if it did (or not) please rate, thank you!

Middle better comes loose

Try placing some "braces" rubber bands around the shafts of the beaters. This should tighten the hold of the shaft with the mixer and keep them more straight.

I think this link will help you understand what is needed to fix your mixer.

You will need to purchase a gear. Here is link MarBeck should have it.

You may need to replace some grease. Make sure to use a non-toxic food grade grease.
