Sorry Dunnnutt, but the throttle cable is quite far away from the brake pedal mechanism. Try this Buckijoe: The brake pedal has a switch (look under the tractor) which avoids cranking the engine unless the pedal is fully depressed. A defective switch and related cabling might ground the ignition thus killing the engine when you release the pedal.
It sounds like your throttle cable is caught up with the brake pedal.
