My new dell Vostro laptop recognizes and prints from the C5280 but does not recognize the scanner in the HP C5280 and says that I do not have a scanner attached. The scanner works fine. i had to install the newst drivers from the HP site to get the printer function to work.

2 ways to scan from HP printers

First* try from "my computer" ... near the bottom of the page you should see "scanners" in there, try clicking that and follow prompts

Second* go to start/ programs/ HP/ HP Solution Center
all scanning choices should be on the left

HP psc 2170 series scanner isn't recognized by Dell Dimension 4550.

the device (scanner) may not be supported by XP Pro or the drivers for the scanner have not been installed properly so that your HP can connect to it. if the scanner is new tech XP may be too old to connect it or its hardware work with it.

My laptop does not recognize the USB cable during a reinstallation of the HP Photosmart C5280 all-in-one printer. Yet, it recognizes the cable when I use it for another printer.

1) Do you have the drivers for the C5280 installed on the laptop?
Each printer (All-In-One) has to have it's own drivers.
The C5280 and the other printer.

Drivers are small pieces of software that allow the Operating System to 'communicate' with a device.
{Windows XP and Windows 7 being two examples of an O/S. The device in this case is an all-in-one printer ]

If you already have both drivers for both printers installed, post back in a Comment.

It would seem that if the USB cable works okay on a different all-in-one printer, that the problem is Not the USB cable, but the printer.

This is what draws me to conclude, that the drivers for the C5280 have not been installed.

if it does make a copy
1.go to my computer
2.go to C:
3.go to program files
4.go to hp
5.go to digital imaging
6.go to bin
7.search for the file named hpqscnvw.exe and double click on it check whether you ca n scan from there or not if yes ............. uninstall and reinstall hp solution center and if it does not scan follow the steps below
