Adjusted according to manual, pedal does not release and brake is stuck and still not working properly. brake spring is rusted, but works somwhat, can this be replaced as well as the brake without dealer, and what type of brake is it; pad to disc or internal like the parking brake. (which, the pedal does not go all the way to the deck.)

Standing behind the tractor, look under the RIGHT
rear, between the tire and the trans case. You will see a small brake disc protruding slightly from inside a brake caliper.
1) Remove the cotter pin, nut, flat-washer and plate in the center of that assembly. You should now see a threaded stud in the center, the ends of two round pins on either side, and two bolt-heads on the outside.

2) Pull the two pins out with pliers. clean, wire brush and grease these two pins. DO NOT remove the two bolts on the outside.

3) Reassemble in reverse order and use the center nut to adjust. A small adjustment goes a long way here.

4) Test brakes with rear tires off the ground in a SAFE manner, while still using the center nut to adjust.

5) Once you have good brakes and good release without any load on the tires, set the unit down and test ride... make final adjustments if needed.

Hope this helps!

How to fix brake stuck in down position on Troy Bilt riding mower?

If the brake on your Troy Bilt riding mower is stuck in the down position, here are a few things you can try to fix the problem:
  1. Check the brake pedal and make sure that it is not jammed or stuck. If it is, try to free it by gently pushing and pulling the pedal.
  2. Check the brake cable for any signs of wear or damage. If the cable is frayed or broken, it will need to be replaced.
  3. Check the brake lever and make sure that it is properly adjusted. If the brake lever is too tight, it may be preventing the brake pedal from releasing.
  4. Inspect the brake mechanism, if you see any signs of wear or damage, it may need to be replaced.
  5. Make sure that the brake linkages are properly lubricated, if they are dry and rusty, they may be stuck.
  6. If none of the above solutions work, it is recommended to contact a professional mechanic or the manufacturer's customer service for further assistance.

My tracker is stuck in park, won't shift , the shifter will not move , the car starts now what?

Most vehicles have a locking solenoid on the shifter that prevents you from moving the shifter unless the brake pedal is pressed. If the vehicle will start, but the shifter won't release when you press the brake pedal, then either the switch that activates the solenoid on the brake pedal is bad, or the solenoid itself is bad. Most vehicles also have an emergency release mechanism for the shifter that can bypass this restriction. There is usually a slot or recess that has a release button that you can insert something thin and release the shifter manually. Check your users manual for details as the method can vary from year to year and model to model.

Brake lights were on continuously.changed brake switch now the wont work at all and stuck in park

The brake switch is probably mis-adjusted. If it does not activate when the brake pedal is depressed, the brake lights will not light and the gear shift release solenoid will not activate. That, or the wiring harness is not connected properly to the switch or is damaged.

Ford f150 shifter

Some year models have a electric lock on the brake pedal lever under the dash. Usually you can check it by pressing the brake pedal and observing the brake lights. If you lose this signal, the shift lever will not move from Park.

There can also be a shift rod inside the steering column which is linked to the ignition key. The shift rod can also be affected by the brake pedal switch failing to release the selector from Park. All 3 parts, ignition shift rod, brake pedal switch, and transmission release are adjusted together. Meaning if 1 does not work, the other 2 can be affected.

Brake pedal stuck, car would not start. any ideas

As I understood, you had stiff brake pedal and the car on your attempt to start was not firing? and after 30 seconds it did? How the engine ran after the start? If I am correct stiffness on brake pedal, fault is either the check valve which is fitted inside the hose goes from the inlet manifold to the servo unit, stuck open and cause the engine have a vacuum leak . Or the servo unit itself stuck according to diaphragm move ability after the vacuum. If the brakes now are working as before and the engine as well,I suggest to remove the hose with the check valve inside test it and actually I recommend to renew it. It is for safety purpose, because this will happen even when you are in motion and God knows if you are in a speed and need sharp braking. Confirm first that it is the check valve or the Servo unit. Ask from an expert help.

I HAVE A 1984 CHEVY PICKUP THE BRAKE LIGHTS DONT WORK REPLACED BRAKE SWITHCH STILL DONT WORK. I JUMPED A WIRE FROM ONE CONNECTION TOO THE OTHER AND BRAKE LIGHTS LIGHT UP? TESTED OLD AND NEW SWITCH .

If you make the jump with a wire at the switch and the brake lights work your new and old switch are not adjusted right on the brake peddle arm. make sure when you move the brake peddle that the switch is moving right to make/break the switch.

Just today had brake booster replaced. Arriving home after dark, brake lights would not turn off! Tried removing fuses-etc. - nothing works. Help! Battery will drain overnight. Thank you!

Your brake light switch is stuck. It's mounted just under dash above your brake pedal. Sounds like it wasn't adjusted properly. You can disconnect your battery for the night and reattach in AM to get back to repair shop for proper fix. Remember when reattaching cables, NEGATIVE CABLE GOES ON LAST

No breaklights and stuck in park

replace the stop lamp switch. It's right behind the brake pedal and it should take care of your problem. Double check it by listening for a clicking sound at the shifter when you step on the brake to release it from park. If you don't hear the clicking sound then its the stop lamp switch. If you do hear the clicking sound then you have two problems. The stop lamp switch and the shifter assembly. There is also a manual override for the shifter located right behind the shifter. Its the little spring loaded flap. Stick a pencil in there to release the shifter.

My brake lights won't go off on my 98 accord. I replace the switch, but it's only working when I pull my pedal back really hard, it need to be adjusted but i'm not sure how to do it??? plus my pedal...

to adjust properly, screw the switch in watching the button on the nose, with the pedal fully up, the button should be depressed approximately 1/2 the way of its travel. be careful not to adjust it too far in or it can cause brake drag/application. hold the switch and tighten the jam nut to keep the switch from moving. have an assistant depress and release the brake to confirm proper operation. hope it fixes it. have fun.

How to adjust parking brake. do you need to take anything apart?

You cannot adjust the cables on a minivan manually. the tension is automaitcally adjusted by the self adjuster on the pedal release.

The park brake cables on this vehicle have an automatic self adjuster built into the park brake pedal mechanism. When the foot operated park brake pedal is in its released (upward most) position, a clock spring automatically adjusts the park brake cables. The park brake cables are adjusted (tensioned) just enough to remove all the slack from the cables. The automatic adjuster system will not over adjust the cables causing rear brake drag.

Due to the automatic adjust feature of the park brake pedal, adjustment of the parking brake cables on these vehicles relies on proper drum brake.

When the park brake pedal is applied the self adjuster is by-passed and the pedal operates normally to engage the park brakes.

When a service procedure needs to be performed on the park brake pedal or the park brake cables, the automatic self adjuster can be manually locked out by the service technician.
