I have a model 1691931 12LTH36 the brake did not work or was stiff at first. Adjusted according to manual, pedal does not release and brake is stuck and still not working properly. brake spring is rusted, but works somwhat, can this be replaced as well as the brake without dealer, and what type of brake is it; pad to disc or internal like the parking brake. (which, the pedal does not go all the way to the deck.)

Some year models have a electric lock on the brake pedal lever under the dash. Usually you can check it by pressing the brake pedal and observing the brake lights. If you lose this signal, the shift lever will not move from Park.

There can also be a shift rod inside the steering column which is linked to the ignition key. The shift rod can also be affected by the brake pedal switch failing to release the selector from Park. All 3 parts, ignition shift rod, brake pedal switch, and transmission release are adjusted together. Meaning if 1 does not work, the other 2 can be affected.

As I understood,you had stiff brake pedal and the car on your attempt to start was not firing? and after 30 seconds it did? How the engine ran after the start? If I am correct stiffness on brake pedal,fault is either the check valve which is fitted inside the hose goes from the inlet manifold to the servo unit,stuck open and cause the engine have a vacuum leak . Or the servo unit itself stuck according to diaphragm move ability after the vacuum.If the brakes now are working as before and the engine as well,I suggest to remove the hose with the check valve inside test it and actually I recommend to renew it. It is for safety purpose,because this will happen even when you are in motion and God knows if you are in a speed and need sharp braking. Confirm first that it is the check valve or the Servo unit. Ask from an expert help.

If you make the jump with a wire at the switch and the brake lights work your new and old switch are not adjusted right on the brake peddle arm. make sure when you move the brake peddle that the switch is moving right to make/break the switch.

Your brake light switch is stuck. It's mounted just under dash above your brake pedal. Sounds like it wasn't adjusted properly. You can disconnect your battery for the night and reattach in AM to get back to repair shop for proper fix. Remember when reattaching cables, NEGATIVE CABLE GOES ON LAST

replace the stop lamp switch. It's right behind the brake pedal and it should take care of your problem. Double check it by listening for a clicking sound at the shifter when you step on the brake to release it from park. If you don't hear the clicking sound then its the stop lamp switch. If you do hear the clicking sound then you have two problems. The stop lamp switch and the shifter assembly. There is also a manual override for the shifter located right behind the shifter. Its the little spring loaded flap. Stick a pencil in there to release the shifter.

to adjust properly, screw the switch in watching the button on the nose, with the pedal fully up, the button should be depressed approximately 1/2 the way of its travel. be careful not to adjust it too far in or it can cause brake drag/application. hold the switch and tighten the jam nut to keep the switch from moving. have an assistant depress and release the brake to confirm proper operation. hope it fixes it. have fun.

You cannot adjust the cables on a minivan manually. the tension is automaitcally adjusted by the self adjuster on the pedal release.

The park brake cables on this vehicle have an automatic self adjuster built into the park brake pedal mechanism. When the foot operated park brake pedal is in its released (upward most) position, a clock spring automatically adjusts the park brake cables. The park brake cables are adjusted (tensioned) just enough to remove all the slack from the cables. The automatic adjuster system will not over adjust the cables causing rear brake drag.

Due to the automatic adjust feature of the park brake pedal, adjustment of the parking brake cables on these vehicles relies on proper drum brake.

When the park brake pedal is applied the self adjuster is by-passed and the pedal operates normally to engage the park brakes.

When a service procedure needs to be performed on the park brake pedal or the park brake cables, the automatic self adjuster can be manually locked out by the service technician.
