Plugged in my wii, put in game on disc channel, pressed start, and then the screen stays dark and the machine is quiet. After almost a minute, the game starts up. I called Nintendo customer support, and even the help desk never heard of this problem. It loads fine afterwards, but then again, this happens randomly...help?!
I don't know how to help you here. You can either have patience for the games to load or send it in to Nintendo for repair if you still have your warranty.

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try
another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem
is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read
error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide,
that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It
also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a
