Getting a battery red light when the computer is off - battery wont' charge and computer won't turn on.
Thanks,
Ron
I have a Gateway MX8711 laptop and it would not turn on. Before disposing of the laptop, I decided to try a fully charged battery from another MX8711 laptop to see if it would turn on and it did. The battery would not charge as it lost charge. I took the hard drive out of it and was going to sell the laptop for parts. After taking the hard drive out, I decided to turn on the laptop for pictures. I pressed the F2 button as it was powering on and it booted to bios. I wanted prospective buyers to see that the lcd was fine. When I did that, I went from screen to screen to look at settings. I noticed that there was "SMART Battery Auto-Learning" and wondered what it was and so I enabled it to see what it was. It sensed the battery, knew exactly what size battery it was and everything. It started charging the battery that would not charge and went through a few hours of tests and now the battery charges and the laptop works great. I hope this helps someone:)
