My Cannon S630 won't print black ink!  I replaced cartridge, and, WHAM, no black.  Color will print.  I thought perhaps it was a defective cartridge -- so I replaced it again!  Still, no printing.  I work at home, and NEED my printer!  Please help????

My color prints come out in green only.
    Printer preferences are set correctly.
Just installed other Canon software (Zoom Browser, DPP, EOS Utility).
    Any connection ?

I have a Canon I960 as well, and it will not print black. I have carried out all of the cleaning steps in the maintenance section, but nothing. It began when I changed the Cyan cartridge. That must only be a co-incidence.

I had this problem with a Canon Pixma MP620. Prints were greenish, both colour prints and B&W prints, and they had stripes across them. I tried a lot of cleaning, wiping and dismantling, and nothing worked.
My solution was simple: I took out the RED (magenta) ink cartridge and "milked" it. I did this by pressing the back part of the ink cartridge between my thumb and index finger. You can see ink going from the back part "reservoir" to the nozzle part where ink is distributed. I did this until a drop fell from the nozzle. I put it back in the printer, and after this, prints were back to their beautiful selves.
I hope this works for you too.

I had this problem. If I tried to print a black& white photo on to glossy paper, it would only print green. When I tried on to plain paper using the 'fast' option, it printed in black. The reason for this is, on plain paper it uses the black cartridge, but output to glossy photo paper using the 'high' option, uses the mix of colours in your colour cartridge. If one or more of your colours has run out, you will get a print with the ink left in the cartridge. Replace the cartridge or refill it & your problem is solved.

SOURCE: Canon i960 will not print in black ink

I use a no. 4 pan head screw to drill a SMALL hole in the top of the ink cartridge, about 1/4" in back from the front edge, so you can reseal it with the screw when done.
Take a small syringe with a short needle and pull the plunger back.
Insert the needle into hole and hold cartridge in place, IN THE PRINT HEAD, while pushing the plunger down to "pressure feed" the ink into the print head.
Reseal the ink tank with the screw when done.
I think the problem stems from the new or refilled ink tank NOT making a good seal with the print head and then there is a vacuum leak at the joint.
I have done this many times with my various Canon printers with removable ink tanks and it almost invaribly works for me.
I also refil the ink tanks IN THE PRINTER rather than taking them out to help prevent the vacuum break between the print heand and the ink tank.
It also helps to use a photo printing program to "print" out a black, red, blue or yellow page (use whichever color you are having trouble with) to help start the ink flowing again as well.
It does not have to be a full 8 x 10 size, just something about 4 x 6 to help reestablish the ink flow.

Canon i960 qill not put ink on paper

I called Canon. I also had green 1 flash and amber 1flash everytime I turned on the printer. That right there indicates an elecrical problem. The flashes mean it needs serviced and with it not printing now means it's not wirth fixing, out of warranty. Canon did offer a code for reduced price new or referbished print from them.

I was printing the other day and each page got lighter and lighter and now it doesn't print anything in black. There's ink in it and I turned off the printer. What else do I need to do to get it to print...

How long has it been since you printer prior to the other day ? If you do not use your printer for some time, the ink will dry out even if it's a new cartridge.
