I have a problem with the pressure relief valve which is in-built into the boiler cap - there is a tiny metal part which almost looks like a small circulat cap on the end of a pin which sits right in the middle of the inside of the cap/valve which has fallen out, and I cannot open up the valve to replace it. Without this piece, the boiler will not build up any pressure, and steam pours out of the relief valve. Is there an easy fix?

SOURCE: Nuova Simonelli Mac 2000 - Boiler continues to fill up

I had the same problem of the boiler filling up all the way with water and the water was coming out of every hole in the machine. Turn the machine off, drain the boiler completely,
MAKE SURE VALVE #2 is CLOSED, this is the one under the drip pan all the way to the left. Turn on the water supply to the system and turn the system ON. The cup warmer on top will come on and stay on for anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes..... let it be,,, do not turn it OFF,, it will go off automatically. That should do it!

SOURCE: unregulated pressure then safety valve releases pouring out steam

Hi there,
It seems to me that your pressure stat which is inside the base of your machine needs replacing. I would try to give it a good descale and if this doesn't do the trick then a new pressure stat is what you need. Prob around £20 if you buy it and do it yourself. www.theespressoshop.co.uk and just click on the little la pavoni machine for full parts list.

SOURCE: we have a La Pavoni epg-8 Latte machine. When I

Hi there,
I am an engineer that services these machines on a daily basis. Good news - you are not missing anything at all. The type of cap you have, has a safety release valve built in which will be the hissing sound. If you fill the boiler as normal, turn on the machine and allow to boil up as normal and if steam starts hissing out and does not stop then just give it a light tap and this should stop. Basically when these machines are new the spring inside sticks and once you have tapped it a few times to release it, it should loosen it up and it will give a brief hiss then stop as the machine heats up. I hope this helps but if you have any further questions you can get me at [email protected]

My pressure relief valve on my boiler is allowing water to pass through constantly.how do i adjust it to stop the water flow? only have about 15 pounds of pressure in system

Even a small amount of crud on the rubber washer/sealer can cause the valve to seep. Some valves can be taken apart and cleaned but it will be better to replace the valve. They can be found on line for around $12 or more. You will have to shut off the water in take valve and drain most of the system unless you have a main line shut off valve so the system wont drain back into the boiler. These valves are usually set at 30PSI.

Loss of pressure in boiler, no obvious leaks, water pressure switch changed plus pressure release valve

Check that your make up water is on.

Make sure your fill valve is working but it sounds like it is not. Your min pressure should be 15 psig. on the boiler. Fill valve will maintain a15 psig on the boiler. Water and pressure does get out of the boiler when radiators are bleed. When fill valve is not working people will keep bleeding the radiators trying to get heat but only lowering the boiler pressure with no water make up.

Make sure your boiler is getting water and has pressure when running.

If it isn't...SHUT DOWN and have a professional look at it.

Pressure relief valve is factory set ta 30 psig and opens when pressure is above 30 psig. This is a safety valve.

My relief valve slowly drips when my boiler runs, fills up a 5 gallon bucket in a day, when it runs alot. this is new ,

Is the pressure in the boiler higher than the set pressure of the relief valve? If it is, there is a problem that the relief valve is trying to correct.
If not, did you try making the valve open?
Be careful, but step back, lift the lever and briefly let the relief valve discharge into a bucket of some sort, maybe you could put some old rags in it to keep from spraying out at you. If there is sediment in the valve this may flush it out.

Pressure relief valve - replace
The internal seal gets bunged up with dirt & scale and then leaks water [pressure] to that outside pipe
To avoid draining the whole system, turn off the two central heating taps on the 3/4 pipes and then operate the valve manually and / or disconnect - only a small amount of water will escape / drip to below the boiler
Replace valve and fill as before.
If you think your system needs flushing out - now is a good time
Turn off mains electricity to boiler before starting work

Boiler pressure

If there is no leak anywhere in the system [pipes & radiators] Check the emergency pressure relief valve. It usually is at the base of the boiler and drains to outside [15mm pipe] where, if the valve leaks, water drips can be seen.. Looks similar to the picture with your query
Renew the valve
You can take it apart and clean it but I've never found that to be successful in the long term

Metal fitting blew a cap w/spring...

It sounds like you have blown out the pressure relief safety valve or somone loosened the valve portion that retains the spring and valve so that it was just hanging on by a thread. This could be very serious. It could mean the automatic pressure control is not shutting off the compressor creating a very dangerous over pressure condition. This is exactly the purpose of the pressure relief valve.

As you do not understand the operation of this unit, I would take it to any shop that repairs small motors and tell then what happened and have them repair it. At the worst, you will need a new preswsure releif valve and a new pressure control switch.

I have seen the damage done by a 2 gallon compressor that blew up and I want you to know it is very serious

good luck

I have a ideal mini c24 cobi boiler and it isnt holding pressure the are no leaks inside the house it just seems to be releasing the water for the central heating from the blow off pipe outside so i keep...

So the boiler relief valve is leaking? What is the boiler pressure when the relief valve leaks? The relief valve will have a pressure rating on it. If the relief valve leaks when the pressure in the boiler is lower than the relief valve setting then its just a bad relief valve. If the relief valve is leaking when the boiler pressure gets above the relief valve pressure setting then the relief valve is doing its job and there is another problem. Several things can cause the boilers pressure to go higher than the relief valves setting. It could be a bad expansion tank or one that needs to be drained and re-charged. It could be a bad cold water fill valve that isn't shutting off and is over filling the system, rasing the pressure above the relief valve setting. If this boiler also does your domestic hot water, I have seen where the domestic hot waters heat exchanger has a hole in it and the domestic hot water is mixing with the boilers water and over pressuring the boiler.

Hydronic Boiler relief valve problem?

Check the pressure guage. Typically the pressure in a water boiler should not be more than 20 psi. If you are approaching 30, the relief valve is doing it's job. I would replace or adjust the automatic water feed if the pressure is high. Always replace the boiler relief valve. Tap on the expansion tank, it should sound hollow. Replace it if it is full of water. If you have one of the old expansion tank that has no bladder in it, drain it.

Gravity feed boiler/ american standard model#g27dpgc

your make up water pressure is greater than the safety relief pressure. The safety should be 30psi lift. the makup usually goes through a regulator called an automatic makeup valve. these valves operate infrequently on a closed system and get rusty. They stick. If yours is stuck open, then your makeup water pressure which is probably greater than 30psi is overpressuring your boiler.
