UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME I have tried to start in safe mode and I still can't get windows to load. It gives me the option to start windows normally or to repair and with either choice, the computer restarts and goes back to the same error message. I seem to have misplaced the reinstallation cd, I don't know how to get into the system and delete the driver file or files that are causing the problem

The cause is a corrupted boot.ini or bad harddrive. Try running chkdsk from the command console. Check the links below for more info on how to do this:

if you can boot normally i suggest going to filehippo.com or cnet and download a free disk partioner and it will remove the boot volume for you. under run, msconfig, there is a boot option select the boot mount you want that may fix it let me know

Most computers when you boot it up give the option of "Boot Menu" upon the first few seconds of powering the machine on. Look at the screen and see if it reads Press F1 or F2 for Boot Menu. From there you can toggle off the safe mode option. Sometimes it's the delete key or alt key for some other computer providers as well.

Unmountable boot volume means your hard drive has gone out...You will need to replace it.There is no way to fix this this.

Recommend entering Windows XP CD, and entering R once the CD Boots up, and enters installation mode.

This will bring you into the Admin panel, enter password, and than enter chkdsk c: -f Once this is completed eject CD, and than restart XP.

Yes, unmountable boot volume usually means you need a new hard drive. However, if you have a windows xp cd, you can boot to the recovery console (press R at the first prompt) and try running a chkdsk /f command. Sometimes that will help. Thanks and good luck! what has happened is your hard drive as failed and that is why it shut down and then gave the unmountable boot volume. You could try repairing windows using your XP cd but it's a new hard drive i recon.
