I dont think you can change a gas furnace from horz/upflow to downdraft, the inducer motor would never prove the pressure switch, the drainpan would upside down, you can order a downdraft unit, i dont believe this unit is made for that

Testimonial: "thanks for the info was told the unit could be used either way bought unit from private individual looks like it had been used very little thanks agai"

I have a Ducane MPGA100B4B gas furnace. The furnace only runs for about a minute then shut off. It does this far too frequent.\r\n First the induce draft blower turned on for a few seconds to check for...

Hello, sounds like the limit switch is opening on the furnace.Usually when a furnace goes off on its high limit is becuase the airflow is being restricted making the furnace overheat. a limit switch is there to protect the furnaace from overheating, most cuases are either dirt or the blower motor not running up to speed, anything that cuts down on the airflow will cause the high limt switch to open.

Certainly wouldn't rule out the blockage as your friend suggests. Perhaps pulling it out, and a flashlight and if necessary a mirror to get a good look in there. May have to head up to top for a look as well. As long as blower sounds like it's running good speed wise.

How does a draft inducer blower work

A draft inducer blower is used to create a proper draft in a chimney or exaust pipe from your water heater or furnace. In a high efficiency furnace or water heater, there is not enough heat expelled from the unit to the chimney to create a proper draft. The toxic carbon monoxide gas which is expelled through the chimney from your appliance is normally carried upward due to the rising hot air in the chimney. When appliances got more efficient (putting more heat into the water tank and less going out the chimney), manufacturers had to add this blower to help get the gases out the chimney since there wasn't enough hot air to create a draft.
Hope this helps.
