The ceramic bowl part of the crock itself is loosing the luster surface about two inches high, most of the way around the inside of the bowl.
As for cleaning, both hand wash and dishwasher methods have been used in the past, neither seems to be destroying the surface.
From past crocks (also Rival brand), this did not seem to be an issue.
Is this still a safe appliance??

Same problem - after only a few uses, a whitesh substance has begun to show on the interior of the ceramic pot. Pot has been hand washed only. No cleaner removes the stain.
Same problem. After one use, a whitesh substance is on the interior of the black ceramic pot. Pot has been hand washed only. No cleaner removes the stain.
agree with above- seems like 2 inches from the bottom all the way around the pot appears "not as clean" as the rest of the pot. Only has been hand washed - even tried Dawn Power wash-nothing seems to help
I have the same problem and tried to find a replacement stoneware liner just to be safe with no luck. Suggestions?
Not sure if diluted vinegar is the solution. I have tried soaking the area (fluid level to the point of problem) with cold, room temperature vinegar.
I have not tried a heated version of the same procedure.
If the heated version fails.... then, I will trash the unit as it seems that Rival is only in the business of selling a product but not standing behind it when failures/problem(s) arise as is testiment by their lack of customer service on their web site!
We have this huge (87 gallon) burgundy glazed ceramic pot on our patio that was used for a fish pond (the fish kept dying), then a fountain and water fall. No matter what we did, the water was always turning green and gunky...We now have emptied it out and want to use it for plants only. The top and sides are all stained with a white film that won't come off, even with vinegar....any suggestions?
