DVD recorder: Changed the settings, now

Hello,
I have a huge problem, I changed the settings to my dvd recorder and now I get a black screen on the TV (a Samsung 40" LCD HD) that says "no signal". The dvd recorder model isn't exactly the one chosen, it was the closest model to mine (MAGNAVOX MDVDRW 160GB) it has a 160gb hard drive, not a combo unit.
As a result, I cannot get the mode screen at all, so I can't change the settings back.
The setting I changed was in the video preferences settings. I changed from "INTERLACED" to "PROGRESSIVE SCAN" mode. The manual states -
"If you have a standard tv, you will need to set the dvd recorder to INTERLACED mode. If your tv supports progressive scan, make sure the dvd recorder is connected to the tv using a component video cable (it is) and set to PROGRESSIVE mode. Please refer to the progressive scan setting of your tv instructions manual."
I cannot find anything in the tv insructions manual referring to progressive scan and I'm unable to change the setting back to interlaced, where the dvd recorder worked fine.
I live in Australia and both items were purchased in Aust (I'm not sure if this will make a difference to you).
I am desperate to have my dvd operational again, any advise will be very, very appreciated.
Can you PLEASE HELP?

Regards, Nikki

We could go through the setting like, you can see the monitor. using the remote do the following steps:
Step 1. press set up button.
Step 2. press down arrow once. ( playback)
Step 3. press OK.
Step 4. press down arrow once. (video (selection))
Step 5. press OK. (progressive scan)
Step 6. press OK, again.
Step 7. press down arrow once. (progressive scan off)
Step 8. press OK
you have now turned progressive scan off.

You have to take the dvd recorder off  progressive mode. You need to set it up with and press play on the unit and then press and hold it for 7 seconds. That will might take it off of progessive. Otherwise to show the picture you will have to use progressive cables. The progressive cables are red green blue and a red and white audio cable and then put it on your component video channel. Those are both solutions.

A flat screen tv had to replace a tv that went out now there is no color only black and white will show from the vcr/dvd player what is the fix?

You need to set the tv for the standard set on the dvd (NTSC or PAL). If it's not helping, change the connection between the 2 devices (S-Video or RCA jack).

Denon Dvd-2910 only displays black and white on the tv screen

Hello,

this is not a serious problem. It just has to do with visual compatibility.

Change the DVD display to Pal or NTSC and set that of the TV to Auto or pal.

You might find the PAL/NTSC on the DVD remote, or on the button of the DVD. If it is not there, then Check display settings of the DVD.

As for the TV, Change to Auto or Pal from display settings.

Take care.

Black box on top of screen during HDD playback mode

Problem solved! Thanks Panasonic Tech Support!!

In case anyone else has this problem, I'll tell you what I found out. This model DVD recorder does not have closed captioning functionality at all. So if this happens to yours, it is not the DVD recorder causing the problem. It is a setting on either your TV, cable box, or whatever else you have hooked up to it.

In my case, my daughter must have accidentally hit the "Text" option on our TV's caption menu. I changed that option back to its original setting, and the mysterious black box is gone.

Panasonic recorder

Have you checked your cables? Start resetting one unit at a time until you isolate the culprit. Don't forget the simple unplug all units to let them reset. .

You think I have fun when something hiccups? A software snaffu? Bad a/v cable? Loose speaker wire? By the way-my online support is getting better and better. Charter cable has live chat, as does Sony and Motorola. Good luck. Also, I can't think of a single setting I've changed with the Panny. other than assigning digital audio out settings. DEcoder setting? Your Panny?
