Recently replaced a damaged screen/ dog bite puncture using (compatible 30% higher res) screen. Post replacement, I let the battery completely run down, reconnected, performed a system restore. All I see is a white screen. I have attempted to reboot, hard boot, etc. no luck. We did see an apple at one point, however, it quickly went white. The only way my laptop recognizes the ipod is during the function of hard boot followed by the pressing of the center and lower button.
My buddy performed a FAT32 with no luck. Screen remains white, buttons not resonsive with exception of boot. I would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks, Mike

JVC KS-PD100 iPod Interface Adapter (257KSPD100, sold separately). This
optional iPod Interface Adapter supports audio playback for the following
iPod models - iPod click-wheel (3rd gen), iPod photo (4th gen), iPod mini
(1st/2nd gen), iPod nano
(1st/2nd/3rd/4th gen), iPod video (5th gen), and iPod classic
(80/120/160GB). The KS-PD100 is not compatible with the iPod touch (1st/2nd/3rd
gen), iPod nano (5th gen), or iPhone (2G/3G/3GS). This iPod interface will also not charge
the iPod nano (4th generation). *Apple firmware updates may change
functionality results.
If you bought the new 'super bright' lcd for ipods then this is the problem. The new 'super bright' lcds for sale on ebay are only for 6th gen ipods. Buy a 5th gen lcd and all problems will be solved.
Yes, you can disassemble a 5th gen and replace your battery, HD, screen, just about any part you wish. What you will need is an "iTool" You can google it or try here Ipodbatterydepot Or, if you're feeling adventurous you can use some small tools and watch the video - How to disassemble your 5th gen iPod
Once you start dis assembly of the unit you will see almost all of it(besides 6 small screws under the hard drive) un-snaps and snaps back into place again. Hopefully someone will find the vid and info as helpful as I did.
I'm sorry, but the bottom line is that you cannot watch videos on the V55 with a 5th gen iPod. 4th gens work fine though. Apple made this change in their iPods after several aftermarket companies began losing money in their products not selling. In response, iPod apparently teamed up with those companies and installed a chip to "decode" the video content. You can hear audio, but see no video. It stinks, I know. I am just glad that I have a 4th gen video iPod.
However, I am posting here because I am looking through posts and blogs to find out how to fix my V55 as the screen is intermitently going bad.
You should try using a different USB cable and connecting to a different USB port and seeing if the problem persists. If it does, the problem's probably with the iPod's logic board.
You should try using a different USB cable as it's very possible the cable is damaged. If that's not the problem, the logic board is probably defective and you can either replace it if you're comfortable enough opening your iPod or sell the iPod listing the defects on eBay.
