Burner won't light

Our left rear burner won't light. It sparks ok but no gas seems to be getting to the burner. This is one of the burners with the extra low (itermittent) feature. The left front burner, which also has this feature, works fine. What part do you think is responsible for this?

We have a Thermador RDDS30 with the identical problem. The left rear burner suddenly has stopped working. No gas comes out what so ever. It also has the XLO burner mentioned in the other post.

I have the star burner model, w/ extra-low simmer. The center burner will not light at all by itself. The right rear burner will self-ignite if you turn it to low, and then slowly rotate the knob clockwise...

Center burner won't light: If there is a bright spark (check all ignitor points at night with the lights out and look for consistent brightness of the sparks) then it's likely that the burner slots are dirty or the air/gas mix is wrong. If you can light with a match, but the spark won't light, then go for cleaning the entire burner assembly thoroughly with a brass bristle brush (available at most automotive stores). The proper air/gas mix has to flow over the spark to ignite. Weak spark, improper air/gas or misdirected gas flow that misses the spark can all cause this issue.

RR burner lights only on low setting. Again, check the air gas mix and clean all parts. Something like a small spider web inside the air mix chamber (area between the orifice and the burner can cause this and is difficult to see. Disassemble, clean thoroughly, reassemble and test. Extra low simmer burners (two on the left side) use their own control module with electric gas valves and variable electric control switches. The burner works on low, so these are not likely the problem.

Most folks want to find a bad part, and that can happen, but stove tops get dirty and cleaning usually helps. If not, you have a clean top to work on.

The indicator lens and/or the retainer are either broken or the retainer is missing. It's best to replace these as they are not expensive. When the top is off while cleaning is an perfect time to replace the lens.

Trouble with front burners: Right burner sparks but does not light Left burner does not apper to spark, but lights If you turn on both bruners they some times light???

The igniters for the burners are all on one circuit so when you turn the burner to light the switch inside the burner valve will cause all burner igniters to come on. As far as the left burner not sparking it could be due to a bad igniter switch in the valve and when you turn on the right burner you are causing all(including the left one) to spark. You will need to make sure that the burner eyes are clear and not plugged. You can use a sewing needle to clear out the eyes. The small eyes at the igniter electrodes are very important because if they are clogged the burner will not light.

One of the extra low burners will not ignite. All other do.

Try looking at the gas pipe. It could be blocked with dirt build up

Extra low burner that won't ignite

Lowly what the potentior does is turn on the burner control system. When you turn on a normal burner you are opening a gas valve and closing a switch to generate a spark. Thus gas flow to the burner and spark. On the extra low simmer burner there is a electric solenoid between the burner head and the gas valve. this has to open as well for gas to flow. What the potentior does is signal the simmer control what level of flame you are requesting and telling the spark module to generate a spark. Once you go to the exlow setting the potentior tells the simmer control what level of heat and will cycle the flame on and off. So when the burner knob was between low and extra low, the flame would cycle on and off. You have to seperate the top section of the cooktop from the burner box to change the potentior for it sits on top of the gas valve for that burner.

Clogged burner on gas cooktop

lowly is it the left burners that won't lite? I only ask as depending on the model some of the Thermador cook tops had simmer control burners. This is a 3 part system on the burners. 1 a simmer control, 2 electric solenoid, 3 potentiors. When you turn on the burner the potentior tells the simmer control to send power to the gas solenoid. At the same time the unit will spark. If your unit has extra low on the left 2 burners then you have this system. The usual problem in the potentior. Hope this helps.
