Follow some straightforward troubleshooting steps to make your microwave work like new again.
1 Make sure the door is closed. If the door is not closed tight, the microwave will not function.Sometimes food will get stuck in the door and prevent the latch from working. Use the paper towel to get the food out, then close the door carefully and listen for the latch to click.
2 Check the power sources. First, make sure the microwave is plugged in; the plug may have shifted or slipped partway out of the socket. If it is plugged in and still does not work, voltage test the outlet the microwave is plugged into. If you are not getting a reading, the breaker is probably blown. Reset the breaker for that outlet in your home's circuit breaker box.
3 Reset the microwave breaker. Take the back cover of the microwave off with a screwdriver. Inside you will find a motor. Most microwave motors have a small red reset button on them. Hit that button. Your microwave should work again if the breaker was the issue.
Microwaves that are either built in, a part of the oven, or over the range are on a dedicated circuit by law. This means nothing else could have tripped that breaker but the microwave.
If it has a problem severe enough to trip a 20 amp breaker several times, it is only getting worse each time you reset the breaker and turn it on.
There is a possible chance of fire. I recommend you turn the circuit breaker off and replace the microwave. Is it a plug in, or over the range type?
you may have some arching inside where your magnatron is located. If you open the door on the right middle part there is a silverplate on the wall .If it is burned you may need to replace magnatron.if you do not seee burn marks it may still be the magnatron hope.that would be the only possible thing that would make the noise other then the mtor plate out of place.
If your microwave oven doesn't seem to work at all, check these:FusesUsually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it.Door switchIf the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work. thanks
Sounds like it overheated, tripped the thermostat, then the thermostat reset.
Chances are you have a bad magnetron.
GE may have a campaign (not a "recall", mind you!) to offer free replacements if yours is a model that has a known history of problems with the magnetrons.
I would call GE and ask them about that. *grin*
