Hi there.
Try increasing the PSP's "CPU Clock Game" by doing this;
1. In the main screen, press "SELECT" button and XMB or VSH Menu shows up
2. Scroll down to "CPU Clock Game" which is usually second from top
3. Press "Arrow Right" until the value on the right shows 333/166 (300/150 will also do).
I hope this solves your (and your son's) problem...
your psp is prob v 1.5 and has been tricked by a program to beleive it is a higher version so an play other games, it can be reversed, there is lots to learn on it if you google psp v 7.5, hope that helps
Make sure that you have an Xbox Live Gold subscription first,
Second You won't both be able to play at the same time enless it is a game that provides guest support(and in some games WITH) guest support you cannot play anything ranked online. To sign in a game with Guest support hit the guide button on the second controller select choose profile and scroll down, if u see "Guest" as a profile and you did not create it, then that game has guest support, and you can both play.

If u are just trying to let him play alone then you have to sign him in how you would normally
To do this, you can either install a custom firmware or try to upgrade it with a higher version original firmware. I think after the installation the parental control pass word will be reset.
Is there a disc in the drive? If so, it sounds like your UMD drive (or disc) is damaged. Does it only happen with one game or with all your son's games?
Have you inserted the game disc UMD into the PSP itself? You have to wait a few seconds after you turn it on before the game icon will be visible in the main menu screen before you can access the game. When it's active and you have the game icon selected press the "X" button to start the game.
