Singer featherweight 221 timeing is off

I have an antique singer. The needle hits the bobbin case when the wheel is turned. I have tried to "time" it but after several hours, just can't figure it out. I need a picture of what it looks like assembled correctly to not whack the needle when the bobbing case comes around. Thank you

There is a web site/group called featherweights, maybe .com or .org

See if the moderator who seems to know whats what can help. I am also sure one of the techs here will know too.

I am having a similar problem with my machine except it got much worse and now does not sew consistently. The needle is contacting the bobbin case. I found the following information about adjusting the timing and it looks like it might solve my problem- keeping my fingers crossed- maybe it will help you too.

I received a 221 singer feather light as a gift.... Love using old machines. It will not pick up the bobbin thread. When it cycles the top thread hangs up and breaks.

Lucky you!

First thing to always try is a brand new needle. A lot of sewing machine problems are due to an old, dull, bent needle.

Most likely the machine has been knocked out of time--the needle and hook are out of sync. Search for sewing machine timing or take it or service.

How do I set the bobbin on the singer featherweight so it does not hit he upper plate

Go to the Singer Sewing Machine Site, select Support, and there is an option to download your user's manual free. On page 7, it shows you how to insert both the bobbin and bobbin case.

I have seen many of these cases, and here is how they work. You'll notice a lever on the front of the case. When that lever is in, you can't remove the bobbin. When you need to insert the case, you have to lift the lever, making sure that the protrusion in the case is on top.

Bobbin thread bunching on singer sewing machine...have changed needle and tensions! Help

Try a ball point 11/70 or stretch 11/70 needle. Also rethread the entire machine. Make sure the needle is inserted correctly in the sewing machine. I had this same thing happen to me recently and I found I had the needle backwards.

My featherweight singer will not pick up thread in bobbin

The singer 221 needs to be threaded with the flat side of the needle on the left side. The thread passes through the eye of the needle from right to left. If this does not solve your problem it may be out of time. You can remove the needle plate and watch the hook it should pass above the eye of the needle as you turn the handwheel towards you. First you need to make sure the needle is at the correct height before adjusting the timing on the lower shaft. You may want to take this in for service if your timing is off.

Bought a featherlite 221 will not pick up bobbin thread have no manaul so am i threading it correctly or putting in needle wrong the machine is like new

I see Singer Featherweight Featherlite manuals, not a Featherlite as a stand-alone model name. For the Featherweight 221 manual try here: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html and enter the model 221. Alternative site: http://www.singer-featherweight.com/ with the direct link to the manual here: http://www.singer-featherweight.com/sitetwopages/singfea.pdf .

I hope this helps.

My Featherweight 221 is ticking, ticking, ticking. It ticks with/or without the bobbin, needle or needle plate. What can I do? Kathy

Remove the bobbin case, put a drop of "sewing machine oil" into the area between where the outer shuttle is turning and the inner shuttle (the part that has the pin sticking out that the bobbin case fits onto.) Also check to see if there is a thread jam in that area. Do not remove or loosen any screws.

Machine No. K1831(256) No.28 how do you set up the stop motion wheel to wind bobbins. It either winds bobbins whilst sewing or just free wheels. I think there must be a way of adjusting this action....
