Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra

When I plug in the ac cord, the screen goes to Creative screen then to EAX screen then makes a quick winding down noise and turns off. Then it restarts and repeats the process over and over again. The strange part is when the unit is NOT plugged in and only using battery power it is fine. Please help. Thank you.

I have the same problem! What do I do?!?!?!

  • Anonymous Apr 16, 2009

Have the same problem and you cant upload new firmware when the thing won't stay on.Also tryed different 5v charger. Also tryed charging the battery separately.Judging from the number of entries for this fault can only assume that its a common fault that is not user fixable. Please prove me wrong.

I can't charge the battery. When I plug in the AC adapter, the unit does a boot and then shuts down. I can't run on battery because it's too low.

I needed a new charger. that was all. Also, the battery (a replacement) doesn't fit right. A little shimming fixed that.

It sounds like you have a problem with the power connector in the unit. If you are good with a soldering iron you can open up the unit and look at the power connections to the main board. If you want someone else to do the repairs check the below company.

SOURCE: 60GB Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra stuck in startup loop

As odd as this sounds, try warming it up. Put it under your arm or on the defroster or where ever. When I would leave mine in the car overnight last winter it would do that rebooting loop like yours until I warmed it up. Don't have a clue why it worked, but it did. Go figure.

When it the zen is turned on it says firmware

Had the same problem and nearly went nuts trying to fix it. Here's what I did:

1. Uninstall all creative driver & creative software.
2. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 (Rolled back to WMP 10) and restarted PC.
3. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 Runtime and restarted PC.
4. Downloaded and Installed the latest free version of Winamp from http://www.winamp.com
5. Connected my A/C Power Cord to my Nomad Jukebox then connected my Nomad Jukebox via USB cable to the Computer.

The computer should then recognize the Nomad Jukebox as "Found New Hardware" then "MTP Device" and lastly "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.

6. If you haven't already, go to the creative website and download the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03 and save it to your computer.
7. Run the Firmware (Make sure Nomad Jukebox is connected) and at this point the Computer should recognize the Nomad Jukebox and begin the upgrade.

After your upgrade is complete, You can go ahead and re-download Windows Media Player 11 and it will recognize the Nomad Jukebox. Not sure what version of windows you have, but I have two computers, one with windows xp and the other has windows 7 and Im able to transfer music perfectly fine with Windows Media Player and RealPlayer on both computers. I hope this works for you. Good Luck!

When I plug in the ac cord, the screen goes to Creative screen,

First thing, make sure your battery is charged. When you power on your player, put it close to your ear.If you can hear the hard drive (a faint clicking noise) then your hard drive may be stuck. When you power on player, tap coner of player on mouse pad while player is booting up.If it doesn't work, try again, tapping a little harder. This is a common problem with these players.Good Luck

60GB Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra stuck in startup loop

mine did the same until i got a new power supply. it requires a 5volt dc pos tip charger with 20 watts. a universal 3-7.5v 2amp charger from radioshack does the trick. make sure the tip is yellow for the charger.

My Nomad zen xtra 40gb is stock !!!

It sounds like the hard drive may be damaged. Have you tried to put it in recovery mode?

Put a paperclip in the reset hole while holding down the play button until you see the screen go to recovery mode. Then try the format option; this will erase all your files but it will tell you if you need a new hard drive.
