Ps2 port doesn't recognize Microsoft Optical mouse

Installed driver from microsoft website. Device manager shows it to be a Usb mouse driver. After powering off computer, plugging the receiver into ps2 port, and restarting computer, the mouse pointer is stuck in the middle of the screen. The usb connection works fine, but I have a limited number of Usb ports. Do I need a driver specific to Ps2 port?

You might think about a USB hub for all your USB devices. ps2 port is more or less dedicated for mouse, which is why your mouse pointer is stuck in the middle of the screen. Go ahead and get an externally powered USB Hub to power other USB devices. To answer, ps2 for mouse needs just a mouse, not USB device.

After rebooting my cpu my mouse stopped working. My cpu does not recognize my mouse? The mouse works because i tried it on a different cpu. what can be causing this?

Did you try to reboot?
Do you have an optical mouse? (if yes: is the red light on?
(Then the mouse is recognized and you must configure your mouse options)
Did you try to connect your USB mouse to another connector?
Or if PS2 connector: Turn of the pc and connect the mouse and power on.
Did you install a new driver? (then uninstall this driver)
Try looking for the most recent mouse driver on the manufacturer site.

Microsoft Optical Wireless Mouse 3000 MSK 1056 does not work !

I fixed an MS wireless mouse that was not responding by pressing the button on the receiver while it was connected to a USB port & then pressing the button on the mouse. Worked fine after that.

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse Not Connecting

After reading on Microsoft about replacing the batteries, down loading drivers and "press the button on the receiver and the connect button the receiver" - I got frustrated and almost gave it flight. Then my wife stepped in and realized that there was a green reset button on the USB connector as well. (who knew?) SO.... you press the green light (which is a button) and release it.... should blink. Then go to THE MOUSE portion and press the connect button for 5 seconds or so.... and wala...... One mouse that plays again! This ones gonna cost me! :) I hope this one works for ya!

USB mouse not recognized

I have similar problem. 2 inland KVM's (both have PS2 inputs, one has USB outputs) do not light or recognize my usb mouse with a PS2 adapter. They do recognize a PS2 ball mouse on the KVM's however. One of the computers (Sony vaio 1.5 GHz) does recognize a usb mouse with adapter on 2 other KVM's (Old Belkin and a Trendnet) (the second computer I have not tried in those configurations). Next I will try an optical mouse with a PS2 fitting. That did work with a fifth KVM at an auto business last week.

Mouse not recognized/ mouse port not working

I kept hold about 30 seconds the blue light button on the USB controller device and it worked!. I guess that's the way to sinchronize both the mouse and the USB controller of the mouse. Ramón.
