Sharp Carousel Model R-1440 won't shut off

I have a Sharp Carousel Model R-1440 and it won't stop running after I hit the stop button. I tried unplugging the appliance and it will stop but once I plug it back in, it just runs and runs. The carousal is not moving while microwave is on. I cooked something in it this morning and the timer ended and I took out the food but when I shut the door, the microwave kept going.

I have the Sharp R-1440 carousel microwave oven and it won't shut off when I close the door. Do you know how old this oven might be? Model R-1440; Serial 123662

Check and change door interlock switches or check for condensation problem on control panel, (internal).
Hope that helps.

Microwave Sharp carousel model R-1440 appears to have had the child-proof lock feature accidentally activated--every time a button is touch on the face board, "lock" is displayed. As this unit is ~15 years...

I would expect that you have a shorting membrane keypad.

The original part number for the plastic frame with keypad was FPNLCB074MRK0 but it is no longer available.

The oven will have to be retired.

Sharp Carousel Model R-1440 won't stop running

It may be a sticking door switch (upper or lower, not the middle one) or the mount of one of those switches may be loose, broken or out of alignment.

See these files:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you can get to the switches.

Or it may be a sticking relay on the control board. We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

If during this unwanted operation the oven lamp, internal cooling fan, and stirrer are all stuck on, but the turntable is not on moving and the oven is not actually cooking, then I would suspect relay RY1 on the control board is stuck.

That's what I suspect in your case.

Sharp Carousel Model R-1440 starts running when door is shut firmly

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

See:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

It will be either the very top or very bottom one, not the middle one.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

You probably have a defective magnetron or blown fuse supply power to magnetron.

Microwave locked

On the R1490-series, you press Custom Help > "1" > Stop/Clear to turn the child lock off.

This may work for you, or press Custom Help and look for a lock option.

If your model does not have a Custom Help button, please reply back with your exact model.
