Might there be a driver for Vista? I used the monitor under xp
with no problem, but when I put it on a Vista machine, it is using a
default driver that has minimum settings....

No but you can attempt to use the default driver or the windows 2000 one. I have found that a few of the windows 2000 and xp drivers do work for things that vista doesn't have a driver for
Two Minolta 2300DL windows 7 64-bit solutions(choose oneoption):
1) Download the XP 64-bit driver and extract to a folder:

then Control Panel>Devices and Printers>Add aprinter> Add a local printer>choose USB printer port>select the "HaveDisk" button(do not select a printer) and browse navigate to where you savedthe XP 64-bit driver "MLUU_DRV.inf" driver file which installs and worksfine. Only issue is now have a 3 minutewait delay for each print job using the universal driver compared to no delaywhen printing with XP.

2) Follow the Vista USB port(not network) install guide butstill use the XP 64-bit driver.

3) 32-bit option use the Vista 32-bit driver first as thatshould work.
1.Check if the firewall is blocking any printer services
2.Check what port the printer is using (reenable the bi-directional support) and if it's on online mode
3.Disable all the firewalls
4.Uninstall the printer driver and software
5.Delete any items under the ff keys: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-2

8.Completely remove drivers by doing the ff: (Option for comm failure because of the upgrade from xp to vista) Ensure there are no documents in queue.
Disconnect printer’s USB cable.
Click the Start pearl, then click All programs, Printers, Dell xxx (where “xxx” is the printer model number) and then Uninstall. Complete the uninstall utility.
From the start search box type spool and press .
The spool folder located at c:\windows\system32\spool opens.
Rename c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32X86 to c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\backup.
Rename c:\windows\system32\spool\prtprocs\W32X86 to c:\windows\system32\spool\prtprocs\backup.
9.Restart the computer.
10.Check th services status
Start-Run- Type Services.msc and Click on Open
You will see long list of services
You need to make sure following 4 Services are set to Automatically start

Windows Vista printing is very similar to Windows XP and most print
drivers supported in XP environment for LaserJet printers may also work
in the Windows Vista operating system.
the software that u are using is not copatible with the prenter. try to set up a pier to pier conection by using other ip address. use MSHOME in your work group then try to put 10.0.0.01 then put 10.0.0.2 as DNS ang default gateway. then do it to the vista notebook just change the ip address by using 10.0.0.3. let me knoew if its ok
Hannspree said that there is no need for a separate driver for XP and suggested I check for an updated driver for my old NVIDIA Video card... That was the answer. I now get the full 1400X900 resolution.
I think the first problem was that you did not load the drivers for the on-board video. And the problems you are having now may also be due to not loading drivers - in this case the chipset drivers for the motherboard. If you go to the vendors web site for the machine or motherboard, they should have all the drivers you need to get your machine running properly. If you give us some info on the brand of machine or mobo, we can then tell you where to get them.
