Battery not getting charged

I have a Luminous inverter, which used to give a good 6-8 hrs backup initially. Later on, the backup started declining, reaching less than 1 hr. Then one fine day, the backup disappeared completely. I got a technician to check it. He supposedly corrected some error, after which it gives a backup of 5 minutes, inspite of getting charged for the entire day. The charging LED keeps on blinking throughout the day.

The technician once charged my battery directly from his battery, after which it gave a backup of more than 2 hours.

Kindly help.

    It says "12 V Dc"...

the technician said dat the battery is okay.. he proved it by directlt charging from his own battery.. he charged for 3-4 hrs n my battery gave backup for 2 hrs..

You must check the power cord of your ac adaptor too then check if it has a fuse. you can change the fuse or change the power cord.

no, you should no open it, if thats the case you cant do anything to revive your ac adaptor... you will need to buy for a new one. if you're using an adaptor you may change it also.

How long does it take to charge battery for the first time?

Depends on the battery... a "toy" battery may only need an hour or two....a motorcycle battery may need 12 hrs @ 4 - 6 amps - depending on the type of battery....a car battery may need 10 amps for a short time (4 hrs) because they come pre-filled and charged. I NEVER depend on the "charge" of a new automotive battery (of any type)..I always charge them for at least 4 hrs @ 10 amps before initial use!! ...they seem to last longer

BUT - AS a RULE = 10 hrs @ 10% of the rated amperage...

Good day all, my blackberry bold 9000 battery drains within 4 hrs after full charging. I have done the following to stop it to no avail: 1. GPS - off 2. Wifi - off 3. Data service - off 4. Memory...

Try this test: remove the battery and place it on a flat surface. Try to spin in. If it spins like a top, the cells are bloated and it needs replaced. Whether it spins freely or not, cell phone batteries significantly decline after 12 months of use.

Dear, Please check following

1. Are you using correct gauge of wire for batteries (Specification mentioned in the manual)
2. You need to charge your batteries at least for 8 hours (as recommended by Mercury)
3. Please place your Inverter in a cool environment (20 to 30 C)
4. Nominal voltage of battery should be 12Volt if using 1x Battery.

Short backup time

Suspect battery failure/faulty cell in a batt
Remove batts and check outside unit
charge up to around 2.27V/cell then check discharge on each batt (12V car lamp is good dummy load)
faulty one will be obvious.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE VERY CAREFUL WITH BATTERIES, THEY ARE VERY DANGEROUS, AND ALWAYS LIVE!

Check you manual for safety procedures, BEFORE working on Batteries.

hope this helps

UPS Backup

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, pls charge the battery outside of the UPS. Thereafter try again. If the unit will perform, it is just that the UPS is not capable of charging the battery from a flat condition since it is normally designed to cutoff below a certain voltage level, say 10.8 volts. In some instances, it could that the comparator circuitry that is responsible for trigerring on/off the inverter when the battery is at a certain level is defective. Due to the absence of a schematic diagram my end, it would rather be difficult to pinpoint the exact part unlike what was available for the Samsung SyncMaster 753S. If you would try to wing it, pls start with fusible resistors, presence of standby voltage (often 24V), charging voltage of >12VDC and a +5 logic voltage/supply. Pls exercise extreme care, the battery terminals have a relatively higher voltage (than 12) with respect to the chassis ground.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
