No guide that I know of .

Open the freezer door and see if the laser light on the right side , flashes twice , then pause , repeatedly . Close the flap on the left side , and the laser should stop flashing . If this is what occures , then the optics ( cut off of the icemaker ) are ok . If you open the freezer and no laser on the right , check the position of the "rake" inside the icemaker . Close the freezer door for about 1 min , and then recheck the position of the rake . If it hasn't moved , then the icemaker is bad .
If the light flashes 2 times then pauses , pour about 2/3 cup of water into the icemaker , and check later , to see if the ice maker has dumped the cubes . If did not dump , replace the icemaker . If did dump , and did not fill with water , then the water valve behind the refrig is bad . Also check the black fill tube above the ice maker fill cup , to see if it is iced up , keeping the water from going into the fill cup . If it is frozen , then replace the water valve , due to seeping ( not closing completely ) , causing the slight drip , to freeze inside the tube .
This is the only guide I know of and it's called an experience guide .

Ice maker does not work

You did not give much information to troubleshoot, but here is a try. Assuming that the fridge is running, freezer is cold and you get cotd water through the refrigerator water dispenser, and no water is spilling into the ice holding tray, the most likely culprit is either the ice level sensor (often a bar or wire of some sort), is either blocked or locked up in position to stop ice production - or some units have a switch to stop ice production - like for a vacation

The ice maker not working: ---

Its the problem of water inlet valve. It's a dual valve. This valve has two tubes in it. One for water dispenser and one for ice maker chamber. The one side of valve is working, but other side of the valve is not working. The valve is got stuck in one position

Makes ice fine but doesnt dispense

Sounds like the dispenser auger is frozen up or stuck. The lights dimming happens because the voltage drop from the stuck auger's motor when you try to use it. Remove the ice machine and clean it. Do not try to take it apart!
Sometimes, the ice machine will fill too much with water and get stuck. Often, it's because the cabinet isn't level.

Water drips slowly out of dispenser, ice distribution is fine.

Hi, yes the water line could be starting to ice up; maybe defrosting the fridge will cure the problem. Mine has a coiled tube behind the lower drawer in the fridge, this is where the water line is chilled. Hope this helps if you've not sorted the problem already. Kind regards jb

Problems with Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator

take the cover off of the ice maker. there are 2 plastic tabs in the middle of the gear on the ice maker. if one of those tabs is bent or broken, that is your problem. if the tabs are okay, check your fill tube in the back of your freezer that goes to your icemaker and make sure it is not frozen. if both of those are okay, then you may have an issue with your water valve.
