Belt could have slipped off or broken. Needs put back on (and tightened) or replaced (if worn or broken).
Many newer motors have nasty brushes and they can cause carbon build up on the rotor. Need to clean rotor and/or replace brushes on motor.
Worse case scenario is that the motor needs replaced due to windings shorted or burned an open where electricity can't flow.
Make and model number for accurate diag, but most common problem is broken wqasher tub drive belt, turn washer on its side and check for a broken belt.
