F25 Is a Motor Drive problem told to me by Whirl Pool. They said the only way to deal with it is to have a "Tech look at it. Silly?

  • Sportsfan22 Feb 03, 2008

I just had my washer delivered and I am having the same problem. Bummer, I haven't been able to wash the clothes the easy way for 2 weeks now. I guess it will be another couple days. I guess it is a motor drive issue. It seems to do everything but spin.

MY DUET WAS JUST DELIVERED AND WE HAVE THE f25 ERROR CODE AS WELL. I WANT IT OUT OF MY HOUSE ASAP... I NOTICED A TWISTED GASKET, RELATED??

  • Kobrix Mar 20, 2008

Bought the kit Duet 9200SQ two days ago ! The damn washer not even did his very first wash cycle ! I got the F25 error code on the "preparation first cycle" (the one to clean the machine with no clothes in it and just a little soap). With everything I read and saw on the Internet last evening, I will try to not have a tech come at my home and replace any parts in the machine, instead I will try this morning to have brand new replacement kit ... to follow ... (in fact the tech is already scheduled for next monday, forcing me to be home between 8:00 and 16:00).

washer has F25 error code. washer does not spin or drain, when in use

  • rtyle Apr 19, 2008

My washer is 5 days old and just started flashing F25.
A "Drain/Spin" cycle pumps and tumbles a few times, but after about 5 minutes flashes this error code.
    It never does spin.

  • rtyle Apr 19, 2008

If you remove three screws along the bottom front the bottom panel comes off.
On the inside, on the right wall, is a plastic bag with a paper labeled "FOR SERVICE TECHNICIAN ONLY".
This has a section titled "FAILURE/ERROR DISPLAY CODES" with all the error codes along with an explanation and recommended procedure. For F25, this is:

    >>

    F25

    DRIVE MOTOR TACHOMETER ERROR

If the control is unable to properly detect motor speed, the machine shuts down.
If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door unlocks after 3 Minutes.

    Possible Causes/Procedure

    1. Verify the shipping system including shipping bolts, spacers and the power cord are removed.
    2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
    3. Check drive motor tachometer resistance. It should be approx. 115 ohms.
    4. Check wire harness connections between the drive motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU).
    5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
    6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor.
    7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.

TOP SOLUTION
The thing is most people have never used a washing machine before, its alright. If you like calling Whirlpool they will track your phone number and in the future they know you like to buy repair parts. The front load washer for the home is a new concept especially with steam etc. use patience and common sense. no washer can really wash 15 pairs of jeans and spin 150 miles an hour several times a week in this you must see the problem . so use common sense when filling the drum and do not use the highest spin cycle unless you are washing very light items. to fix f25 (happened to me after 1 month and I purchased a floor model) the fix is easy and does not involve a circuit board even though there are many buttons that light up. A repair man would love to order you any part you want plus markup, suggest the balancing mechanism and you will have made a new friend. give it up if you know you had to push on the door , maybe take a running jump to get it to close.you cannot wash a months worth of clothes all at once 1. unplug unit 2. remove 2 to 3 screws from bottom of front panel 3. next gently check connections, some may need tightening but again be patient and use appropriate pliers but mainly use gentle pressure 4.many will discover how simple it would be to work on the washer especially if you opted for the pedestals (worth every penny) 5. notice the drain trap cleaning access white and circular and turns, with a towel underneath open and clean trap at least once a year ...before replacing panel do a test rinse and spin. you will notice that once the f25 code appears there is no resistance to turning the drum this only helps to protect certain parts, once the appropriate wire is no longer loose this resistance is no longer...test but still be patient wait while the machine goes through the motions. don't start pushing every button. drum starts turning properly then replace panel. there is taped to the panel a manual with a breakdown of all the error codes. remember this is a very expensive piece of merchandise and will do for you what dry cleaners would have done for you (yes it has a wash by hand button and the machine will not spin to remove water in clothes on this selection, it will only turn to agitate , just remove clothes, hand wring out into the drum then hang or place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for a day or so until you can hang items)** I was able to my surprise wash a 110 year old linen tablecloth using this feature (soak items that require special stain removers and rinse before putting them in this machine. this machine is fantastic BUT be patient, and do not overload and do not spin everything on the highest setting. In being patient I was able to wash a king size comforter and the slip covers of a 90" sofa (not together) the machine can do this, not every day, but choose the correct setting such as bulky or heavy duty and select appropriate settings. I know for the money one should not have to take off the front panel but remember the machine weighs 200 pounds and coming from whatever factory one can only imagine what happens to machines that are abused in transportation. The key is to be patient and use common sense, if waiting on the machine to finish or the door to unlock ( the reason for the multiple locking steps is to allow those who have decided to get into the machine the opportunity to get out) then I will use the dreaded word of multitask otherwise enjoy the experience. I know I love mine!!!

Just got done take the back off and the front lower panel after receiving a F 25 code. After wiggling a few connects and then getting the same error, I looked closer to see if there was something causing the code. Turns out that there was a sock wedged into the crack between the drum and the unit. After removal of sock, no code. Just another possible solution.

  • WashVictoria Sep 06, 2011

Thanks so much. After reading your solution, we went and looked under the rubber ring that is between the door and the drum (the one you pull back to remove lint, no tools required) and sure enough, we found a set of tweezers. They probably move and block the spin of the drum, causing the F25 error.
We just restarted the cycle and all seems to be good.
    Thanks again!

Hi we just had ours delivered hocked it up and tried to run initial wash cycle before putting a real load in. We got the f 25 code and this is how we fixed it. First unplug your machine, then remove the front panel. There are 4 screws on the bottom front of the panel. Check the connection of the wire harness that connects to the motor make sure it is pushed in till it clicks. that was our fix. Boy was I P.O.ed .

Had the same problem with a just delivered machine (new). Had a tech fix it under warranty. One of the wires to the electic motor was not fully connected. He accessed this by removing the front bottom panel (3 screws) and checking all the motor conectors after unplugging the machine. He then ran it through a test cycle which checked out (problem solved). This problem would be more likely with new machines just after manufacture/assembly. May happen with older machines due to fibration and a partial/marginal contact connection of wiring at manufacture (intermediate problem). If new machine, call the 800 number and have a tech service the machine under warranty. What happens is the motor does not get started for spin and the techometer says so to the control modual and the F25 error is presented. In my case, it was the motor not getting into spin speed because of the wiring connection issue.

If the machine is unable to balance the load before final spinning, occasionally it stops and displays this error code.

The balancing problem is the biggest disadvantage of front loaders compared to top loaders.

  • heffy12 Oct 20, 2010

After removing the front panel and checking all the connections I restarted a rinse cycle. still got the code f25. For some reason, just before it sets the code, I can hear the motor trying to turn but is not able to. So, I removed the back cover, belt and large pulley of the drum. While turning the drum (with a crescent wrench) I can hear and feel grinding in the shaft. Thinking this is a bearing issue.

Before you go replacing the MCU on this thing I urge you to check all of your wiring connections between the motor the MCU. I pulled my MCU and found no obvious signs of damage. When I put it back in I noticed a loose wire on the harness between the motor and the MCU. The plug these 5 black wires go into are poorly constructed and with all the vibration they experience it seems probable this could be a common problem. If you have a simple multimeter you can check conductivity between both ends of the harness. In my case I put a little solder on the loose connection, plugged it back in and the washer now runs like a champ. I was almost set on ordering a $300 MCU instead all this cost me was a little time and frustration.

F25 appears to be a "drum stuck" error. I got this code and fixed it by removing a set of reading glasses (not sure how they got there) that were wedged between the outside of the drum and the side of the machine. Check your drum by gently pushing it around, seeing if there is any resistance. It should rotate easily with little force. Mine wouldn't budge, but once I removed the glasses it spun right around and has been working normally since.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but going to post here anyway. i had error code f25 on my duet model WFW94004SW01. it is 3 years old. made several calls to whirlpool, and they were no help at all. we scheduled service through them. charge of 100.00 just to show up and diagnose the problem. when i called whirlpool, i told them the drum was frozen.

service tech showed up, was there for a few mintues and told my wife the motor and belt were shot, and for 437.00 the could do the job and guarantee the work for 90 days.

afterwards. i took off the back panel of the washer, removed the belt, turned on washer, and the motor spun fine but the drum was frozen. after some time i was able to work the drum back and forth, and noticed some good size metal shavings falling from behind the washer.

i pulled the flywherrl off the drum again, and see that the cap for the sealed bearing for the shaft was free, and that. the bearings are chewed up.

it is spinning freely now, though noisey, and i know if i use it, its just a time bomb waitng to go off. i have absolutley no trust in the service company that came out as the charged 100.00 for nothing.

has any else had a bearing failure like this?? curious if the bearing can just be replaced easily. this machine is used by a family of 3, and has never been overloaded.

  • Anonymous Oct 27, 2012

it's a ton of work to do. you need to remove the drum assembly and pop off about 40 clips, then the outer drum opens up and you can pull out the inner stainless drum. i wouldn't think the bearing is expensive. I had to open mine up and rebuild the stainless drum. the connection between the drum and the shaft broke and the drum was just flopping around. got that fixed and now we don't put as much in the washer each time.

F25 error code NO Spin. Truly a major defect (or a way of keeping service calls coming in) - the cable harnesses just don't make good contact after getting an unbalanced shake. Removing the bottom front panel (the two screws on my Whirlpool used Torx head screw bit - available at most hardware stores) and Jiggling and pushing the 4 or 5 electrical harnesses and individuals connectors that connect the rotating drum and the components mounted to the washing machine frame will do the trick. While you have the bottom open you can clean out the clean-out Which was filled with loose change - but beware if the machine is still filled with water cause it will all come out. So get ready with the mop!

Removed and replaced the MCU(motor ontrol unit). This part was about 280.00 because i epedited the shipment. Not being able to do laundry sucks. Wore same socks three days in a row, my feet are ichie. Anyway... The MCU replacement didn't do the trick. It turns out that oneof the tachometer wires (small red to end of motor) had an expose wire. This was gounding out on the motor. RPM feedback not acurate.... Check all wiring before ordering parts.... I actually had Sears come out and diagnose the problem. They told me it was the MCU. They also old me that the part lead time was 10 days. I refused service due to thier markup on the price and lead time. I purchased the part and will return it. Not sure how the tachometer wire was violated.....

It is a circuit board problem. We've been through two boards and are expecting the third to be installed this week. The board is not a stock item carried by most service people & must be ordered from Whirlpool. Our first replacement took a month to come in on back order & only lasted two weeks. The second replacement has only taken two weeks to come in.

When it works it a nice machine. But Whirlpool seems to have a lemon that they need to do something about.

This error code indicates that the door is not locking.
Is the washer door firmly shut?
The door must be completely closed for the washer to operate. The door may look as if it's closed, but it may not be latched. Open the door and firmly close it.
Were you washing a large load?
Before you close the washer door, check for laundry items sticking out beyond the door opening. Leave enough space in the washer to allow the clothes to freely tumble. Reduce your load size if needed.

F 26 Code that won't go away

The F26 error code on the Duet washer is a door switch error. The button inside the door opening might be stuck so that it doesn't register as being opened and closed. First press the pause/cancel button to clear the error display. Next push the button inside the door opening a few times and pull it so that it pops out completely. That should solve the problem.
