Are you using Windows to format the drive? If you are and any older versions of windows are on that partition it will not format it. In any case whenever you want to start with a fresh install its always best not to format the HDD but to wipe it totally clean. That's the only way to be sure all Trojans and any other malware, junk etc is positively permanently removed. One very good program for this is "Wipedrive" use it to clean your drive before you reinstall any OS.
Just pop the OS cd and boot from it. Follow the instructions and will give you the options to format the drive. For best result download http://www.dban.org/download and wipe the drive clean.
to reformat a computer first you need a bootableOS version and a CD drive place the bootable OSCD or DVDs in the drive and switch on the the laptop then press F12 when the system starts or press DEL on start up this will enter bios and click boot device property and make first boot as Cd drive then click save and exit when restarting the computer will show boot from cd press enter and the system will start booting from CD and follow the instruction
Hey there byadava, when you reinstall an operating system, the memory gets totally wiped when it is reformatted. The result is that all the system drivers for your motherboard are also erased. You will need to get the drivers for sound, and other things as well. They can be found at the manufacturer's support site.
