Screen seems to have convex curves at the top and bottom of the screen. had it repaired once 3 years later the same thing. took the tech that came to the house said the heat expands the connections on the main board then contracts when you turn the tv off. 15 minutes to solder some points on the mother board good as new again. is this right? can it be that simple or is it something he's not telling me? Getting ready to call him again.

If it is convergence and was soldered once--it will most likely need the convergence chips replaced--this model uses two STK-392-570 chips----even if bad soldering was the first problem based on the fact that the set is a 2001 model--should have just replaced the chips then as the amount of work to get at them to solder is the same as changing them--if the chips are replaced the set should be good for 5-8 years--not 3 years.

I have circular oblong lines repeating from the top of the screen to the bottom. I cam watch a show but, when the screen is dark the lines show up. they are sharp thin lines curved from edge to edge on...

Not that you want to hear it but its the begining of the end, you convergance i.c. is starting to go. I had this set a few years back and I fixed it once for around 350, then six months later it dies again. Parts for this style have jumped in cost so I would say 400-500 for repair

PT-61G63 Convergance

Your convergence IC's most likely need to be changed, possibly some resistors as well.
Do you know how to solder and use a meter? If so you may be able to fix this yourself for under $100. If not you will need to repairman to repair it, this should cost around $300-$500 Let me know if you want to repair it so i can get you going.

Mitsubishi prjection screen WS-65908

You have a convergence problem, all this sets show this problem sooner or later, you have 2 or 3 amps for the red, green blue colors and this amps go bad and need to be replaced then you have to do a convergence aligment from the service mode and not form the customer controls,a qualified tech should be able to correct the problem since is a common one.

Mitsubishi Diamond Series CS-27609 problem...image looks "fisheye"

2 years later and I may have a solution for you

I has a similar problem and I didn't quite fix it but made it less noticeable.

Press menu and then the code 2-3-5-7, this enters a service menu. Press Audio/Video to go between the options to get to options 40-50 to adjust geometry. Be sure to write what setting there on before you change it (even if they're wrong) just in case.

Its just trial and error from there, and hope I can still help.

PICTURE CURVED

I have the same problem, it is called the "bow tie" effect, I read in a forum a couple of years back it is because they started computer sodering instead via humans and it was not successful during that time. I bought mine in 02. I was hoping to find a picture of the the board and the specific soder joint on this forum. I hate to pay alot for a tech, (specially since it was mitsibitsi's poor craftmanship) and a 65" is not something you throw in the truck and take to them. Good Luck.
