HP C4280 All-in-one printer has error USB not connected when trying to scan documents. Is there a driver I can download to fix this problem? I'm running Windows Vista 64 bit system on a Dell. I hate windows vista!

You are correct in that paperport 9 will not work on Vista and paperport 11 is the alternative. I called about a similar model and the guy at Brother told me that paperport 11 is included on an updated cd from brothermall.com for some models. It was only about $3 so you might want to check for your model. Hope this helps.

If you have the Win7 full-feature driver installed, try installing the Software Patch. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-77751-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=4063&product=3737195
If you managed to get the minimal driver set or the OS driver, uninstall that and disconnect the printer from the computer and install the full featured software

If you can't download the full file and get an installation error from an incomplete file due to connection errors, the link to the full software above also has a link to order a new CD with the drivers.
Sometimes the scan error (when the printer itself works) indicates that the HP monitor isn't running (due to incomplete install or turning off the program (not letting it run at boot, for example). The other cause is a poor connection since scanners need bi-directional communication with the computer. Try a new data cable, plugging into a different port. If you have a print server or USB hub, try a direct connection.
I hope this helps.

Are you able to scan with Vista's built-in scanning utility or is it any scanning software that causes the error? Window's Vista 64 bit tends to have issues with some drivers.
